Book Review

I have read countless vampire and paranormal romances-so many that sometimes I feel like I am reading the same thing-and it’s hard to find a fresh take on such a popular genre.

Although Tes Hilaire doesn’t provide an original take on the vampire myth, her writing is style is above par and she has developed three-dimensional characters with depth. I find myself wanting to read more of this series just to see what happens to the secondary characters--Valin and Logan.

Roland, a fallen Paladin warrior, is a newly turned vampire. Lost in his uncontrollable blood lust, he’s unable to prevent his sister’s death. He is the typical wounded and tortured hero, riddled with guilt and shame, who believes he is unworthy of love. Believing him to be a soulless monster, he fights his desire for Karissa, his mate.

Karissa grew up knowing nothing about the mystical world of the Paladin. She has the power to ‘trace’ across distances that she can see, but it weakens her. After her grandfather’s vicious murder, she flees to find the only man she thinks can save her-Logan Calhoun-a great Paladin warrior.

She is the last woman Paladin and because of her “gift”, she is sought after by those who would use this gift for a darker purpose.

This story is fast-paced, moving towards a gripping climax where several secrets are revealed. Some are predictable, some not-but I loved the humor and writing of this story just the same.

Fave quote from the book:

“Not to mention this a cold rain. I think my balls are trying to hide somewhere in the vicinity of my small intestine.” –Valin.

Did I mention that I can’t wait for Valin’s story?

If you are a lover of this genre, Hilaire’s Paladin warriors should be added to your list.
