Book Review

There is an overwhelming number of fan fictions that have turned to main stream publishing. Sometimes that can be a good thing--readers can discover a brand new author with a talent to weave a beautiful and addictive story. 

Sometimes it can miss the mark, as in the case of Beautiful Bastard. 

Unfortunately there was nothing addictive or beautiful about the story of Chloe and Bennett. 

Beautiful Bastard had a great premise to what could have been an intriguing read, but the elementary writing and over-the-top dialogue had the story falling flat for me. I could not find a connection to either character or a desire to know what happened next. And for me, Bennett was just totally unlikable. Chloe was even more so, because she failed to be what could have been a very strong character. 

Beautiful Bastard turned out to be a bitter disappointment.

Three’s Company?

In my newest release, 7 Days of Seduction, the action starts with something I’ve often heard of, but have never experienced--a ménage a trois.  (Technically, it’s probably a threesome, but the terms seem interchangeable today.)  Even more interesting, the heroine of the book, Ashley, has a threesome with her ex-boyfriend and a gorgeous stranger--and then can’t remember a minute of what happened.

A popular fantasy of most men, threesomes have the potential to fulfill fantasies and spice up the action in the bedroom.  In these days of sexual liberation it seems to be very popular--especially in erotica and erotic romance.  The question is, should it remain in the realm of genre fiction and fantasy?

Since I was definitely not going to do my own personal research on this topic, I did a lot of internet research, which leads me to believe that most often this little fantasy should remain in fantasy land.  There seems to be a lot of pitfalls that people who rush into these relationships don’t take into account.  

Jealousy is the most obvious drawback.  Even people in strong, long-term relationships may become jealous when watching their partner pleasure another.  There is also the possibility that one of the threesomers will want to break ties with the old partner and re-configure with a new one.  Even though most sites I visited stressed the idea of laying ground rules before the event takes place, rules, unfortunately, are meant to be broken.

In 7 Days of Seduction, the stakes are different.  First, it’s an unplanned event that just happens during a wild party.  In many ways, perhaps the best way to have a ménage.  In a second encounter, Ashley’s partners are the same two people: an ex-boyfriend and a current lover.  And having had sex with them both once before, there’s little harm in repeating the arrangement.  

One very interesting account I read was of a woman whose husband’s wish for his 40th birthday was to have a ménage with his wife and another woman.  The wife granted the wish, found a third partner and they in fact had their afternoon delight.  But it seemed that while they found it enjoyable, neither husband nor wife found it earth shattering.  Neither wanted another “date” with the other woman.  

Is the most erotic aspect of the threesome, then, its fantasy element?  Are some fantasies better left in fantasy land?

Book Review

I am a huge fan of Lorelei's Rough Riders Series--no doubt about it--and love her smexy Cowboys that drawl such dirty words that make me wish I lived in Wyoming. Or at least attend a few Rodeos.

Her cowboys and cowgirls are devoted to their family, even when the shit hits the fan and they don't always get along. Her heroines are kick-ass bitches that drink hard, party harder, and love fierce.  What's not to love? Oh, and they do cheerleading jumps (Hurkeys) off the bar, lol.

I will say (while ducking my head) that KISSIN' TELL wasn't exactly my favorite of the series, but I did enjoy reading it. In fact, had to take a cold shower on occasion, and hold my sides from laughing at the visuals that Lorelei painted about a certain nekked trampoline scene. Talk about awkward and a wee bit uncomfortable.  OUCH...certain body parts should NOT be exposed while jumping; Gorgeous "Georgia" body or not, that cannot be pretty.

Yes, some of the smexy times was a bit out there for me, as far as realism goes--but I did enjoy reading them. They were very entertaining and original.

And I will never eat ice cream again without thinking how Tell loves to lick it off certain body parts...sigh...

Even though certain **ahem** sexual escapades pushed the realism boundaries for me, they were exactly what they were intended to be--highly erotic and a  total turn-on HAWT. 

Tell's dominance in the bedroom and the whispering promise of hot things to come--I almost felt his hot breath against my ear--was swoon worthy and rated an A-friggin-plus in my book.

Both Tell and Georgia have experienced a loss of a sibling. Both haven't really dealt with it. And both have no clue in hell on how to be in a relationship.  I love the way they flounder around trying to figure things out. Things aren't perfect---and THAT dose of realism is refreshing.  There was also a strong family dynamic in this story that made me wanna reach out and give my mom a huge hug. 

KISSIN' TELL was a great addition to James's Rough Riders Series and has me hoping that Dalton (Tell's youngest bro) gets his own smexy HEA.

I am a sucker for a great romance involving a military man. There is just something super sexy about them-and my knees go weak at the sight of a man in is dress blues (or whites--or nekked).

Let Me In has a two-for: Liam Brodie is a former Marine and Talia has just recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan. She is a strong female character and Marine that any woman can admire.

This novella was the first book that I read of Callie's--and it most definitely won't be the last. Her powerful and emotional story hooked me in and drew a tear or twenty. And I thought it was pretty damn clever of her to write about a very real topic of hoarding.

If you haven't caught Hoarders: Buried Alive on TLC, you may not know what I am talking about. But hoarding is a very real and very serious medical condition. People who hoard their belongings until they are almost literally trapped inside their homes have a deep psychological illness and Callie explains how

Talia's mother desperately needs to accumulate things in her life.  And she explains how this uncontrolled obsession effects Talia and her inability to connect to anyone.

Let Me In shows vunerable and tender moments between Talia and and Liam, and the dominant side of Liam as Talia explores her newly found submissive nature.

But the main theme for this novella is acceptance--and the ability for Talia to let Liam into her life. To finally lean on someone and let them in.

All I can find on the internet about this book, is that is the newest TO BE RELEASED Cat Johnson Book---The expected release date is September 18, 2012--in eBook format.  It is book 5 in the series.

The cover grabbed me by my hoohah and squeezed when my eyes spotted the smexy tatt.

Now I have a little over 4 months to read Johnson's Studs in Spurs series, so that when the expected release date rolls around, I'll be ready to ride!  Yee--HAW!

BOOK REVIEW ~ BARED TO YOU BY SYLVIA DAY

Book Review:

This book starts out intensely hot. There is immediate sexual chemistry between Gideon and Eva. Theirs in an undeniable connection and no matter how they fight it, the two cannot stay apart.

But this book has a dark side-one that left me a little unsure at the end. Even now, I am scratching my head thinking, "WTF just happened?"

Eva has asked a very profound question in this book, and one that I even struggle with the right answer--"Can two people with a history of sexual abuse have a relationship?" Both Eva and Gideon have a horrific past. And the reader still doesn't know to the depth of just how bad Gideon's abuse truly was.

These characters are extremely flawed. Their story is not pretty. There is anger, jealousy, possessiveness, and many more obstacles that threaten to keep Gideon and Eva apart. Even Eva's BFF has a skewed sense of a healthy relationship. I hope Sylvia gives him his own HEA.

There were times I wanted to scream at Eva for her judgement, and Gideon for being so possessive ~ I thought he had some serious explaining to do by the end of this book. And I STILL feel he has yet to spill his guts and come clean about his abusive past. I am happy to know that their story will be continued in Deeper in You, because as it stands, things aren't neatly worked out in the end. DEEPER IN YOU has an expected release date of October 2012.

Overall, I love it when a book makes you think and feel and question--Sylvia does this superbly and smacks you in the face with difficult choices and strong emotions from her characters.

I truly love and adore this series. Not only is it steamy, smexy, and  oh, so deliciously HOT, Kallypso writes with such emotion-painting the scenes with a vividness that makes you feel like you're there among the pages.

This series is a must read for all the peeps out there who like their romance with some kink...  a different kind of smexy :)

I have been waiting for Mine To Hold for what seems like FOREVER...alas, I am such an inpatient little book HOOR. Her books should come with warning labels--CAUTION ~ What you are about to read is very hot and  smexy...please have battery operated devices at the ready, lol. 

I have loved all of these books (Wicked Lovers), but hold a special fondness for Decadent, Wicked Lovers, Book 2.  Deke Trenton is one Alpha male that still makes me weak at the knees.

Shayla is a pro at capturing the emotional impact as well as sizzling chemistry that sizzles on almost every page.

Book Review:

Can I just say how lucky I am to have discovered this gem? WOW-HOT DAMN-and FOR SHIZZLE--I will be buying the rest of this series.

Crash Into You is packed with steamy sexy times that will make you sweat. Action packed and the suspense will keep your attention in between the smokin' sexy times. And it is pleasingly very well written with flashbacks that are perfectly timed. 

Here is my pet peeve---when you get excited about a book because it has the really great cover and it states that is a contemporary erotic romance--and when you start reading you just end up skimming because the whole premise of the book blows....

Well, you do NOT get this with Crash Into You...no sir-ree Bob. You might have to use your B.O.B. after reading though, just sayin, lol.

I am still swooning over the hero of this story: Reid Jamison. **fanning self ** There is such heart-felt emotions poured into this book.

Book synopsis:

Reid Jamison, hunky lawyer with oodles of charm, is  conceived in the most horrible of circumstances. He has constantly tried to rise above his less than stellar conception. With a father who is a rapist and who loved to torture his victims-- that is one big skeleton in Reid's closet and a demon that he struggles to keep hidden. And when he finds himself with a kink that involves tieing up his dates? Well...that just makes things very difficult, indeed.

Brynn LeBreck has her own terrible secret. With a family that she struggles to keep hidden, she meets the promising young lawyer, Reid, who is from a very prominant and wealthy political family. She finds his good looks and charming ways very hard to resist and the two are soon wrapped up together in the sheets. Brynn finds that she loves the Dom side of Reid's personality and it gives her something in return to submit to him.
