Book Review

I have to say that I thought I would lose interest in this series. I mean, it IS book number 19.

But Lynsay Sands has proven she still has it with this book.

When I want a sexy vamp with a bit of humor on the side, I know that I can count of Lynsay to deliver a great tale that will have me laughing as well as swooning over the hero of her story.

Jake Colson was turned into a monster--a vampire.

At least, that is how Jake views it.

At the age of eighteen, Jake learns that his mother is a vampire--as well as his entire family. Shocked and hurt, he grows distant from those who still love him. He views vampires as soulless monsters who are nothing like humans. And he refuses to turn like the members of his family.

But one night, that choice is taken from him by his boss, Vince Argeneau. Jake is stabbed, bleeding to death and Vincent uses his one turn to change Jake into a vampire.

Waking up after the transition  Jake feels betrayed and hates what he has become. He cuts off contact with his vamp family and works as a bodyguard for the next seven years. He spends this time alone, having very little close relationships--with either vamps or humans.

But when Marguerite  the immortal matchmaker, comes to call, Jake finds himself playing the role as housekeeper and cook to a very mortal woman--Nicole Phillips.

Nicole is waiting for her divorce to become final and disillusioned with men. Her soon to be ex abused her emotionally and now that she is free, she is determined to never be treated the victim again.

But her new housekeeper/cook is sexy as sin and her libido is waking up from a long dry spell.  Jake may be just the man to set her back on track, employee or not.

But someone is trying to kill Nicole and accidents are happening left and right. Nicole is blind to the threats against her and cannot imagine that her ex-husband could be behind those "accidents" occurring in her home.

Jake is determined to protect Nicole. But when he discovers that she is her lifemate, he wants more than just protect her. He wants a chance to prove to her that they could find happiness and a loving marriage--something Jake has always wanted. Also, Jake starts to realize that the family he has kept at such a distance aren't the monsters he thought.

With a killer closing in, Jake has his hands full. But who exactly is he trying to end--Nicole, or Jake?

Lynsay still has my interest with this series. Although, I do have to say that in this case, the bad guy was a shocker.

And not in a good way.

I thought the cliffhanger in One Lucky Vampire was a bit off the mark. It didn't make much sense to me why Lynsay chose who she did as her antagonist. I would have chosen someone different and fed a few hidden hints in the story, so that when you have the big reveal, it made sense. The way it is revealed and who it is seems to come from out of nowhere.

However, with that being my only "WTF" moment, I found One Lucky Vampire a great addition to the Argeneau family. And I will continue to devour Lynsay's books as fast as she can write them.

Nicole stilled, and then slowly raised her head to peer at him. Oh yeah, his eyes were on fire now...and so was she. How the hell did that happen so fast? No kissing, touching, nothing. Just a couple of words and she was ready to go.

Jake picked up his plate and coffee and carried them to the island, then returned to stand beside her. Nicole tipped her head back, expecting him to kiss her, but instead he caught her chair and turned it so she faced him. He then scooped her up and set her on the table where his cake had been moments ago.

"These have to go," Jake announced, reaching for the button of her jeans. "You should wear skirts and dresses," he added conversationally as he slid the button free and started on the zipper. "it would make things much easier."

"I'll have to buy some," Nicole said breathlessly as he slid the zipper down.

I love me some vampire lovin'! And Jake is super sexy in Lynsay's newest release.
Now it's your turn to show me your sexy!

Here is my candidate for this week:

No one does wickedly funny and irresistibly steamy like New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands—especially in this red-hot romance between a reluctant vampire and the beauty who needs his help.
Luck be a vampire tonight . . .
When Nicole Phillips agreed to hire a housekeeper, she pictured someone a little frumpy and almost certainly female. Instead, she gets gorgeous, unmistakably male Jake Colson. The man is proving indispensable in the kitchen—and everywhere else. Except Jake might not be a mortal man at all.

Then he'll prove that this kind of love, and luck, happens only once in an eternity.

This cover is dark, sexy, mysterious, shadowed and has a half-nekked vampire. I love this series and cannot wait to read this. The release is September 24, 2013.

Now it's your turn to show (or tell) me what cover you're lusting over this week. Leave me a comment--I'd love to hear from you.

BOOK REVIEW ~ THE LADY IS A VAMP BY LYNSAY SANDS

Title: The Lady Is A Vamp ( Argeneau Series, Book 17)
Author:  Lynsay Sands
Publisher: Avon
Release Date: July 31, 2012

Reviewer purchased own copy of book

Book Blurb from Goodreads:

One late night leads to . . .

Kidnapped When Jeanne Louise Argeneau left work, she never thought she'd end up tied down by a good-looking mortal. More attracted than annoyed, she quickly realizes there is more to her abductor than meets the eye.

One desperate act leads to . . .

Love? Paul Jones has need of a vampire, and only Jeanne Louise will do. He just has to convince this beauty of a Vamp to help him . . . never imagining that he would fall in love. But with the immortal world's answer to law enforcement hunting them, their time together is running out . . . and Paul and Jeanne Louise will need to risk everything to spend an eternity together.

Book Review

I have been a fan of Sands' books since the first in this quirky series. You can expect a light read that is entertaining with just a dash of smexy.

The Lady Is A Vamp is about Jeanne Louise, a young immortal, who is kidnapped by Paul Jones, an employee of Argeneau Enterprises.

Paul is a single father desperate to save the life of his only child, a very adorable little girl who captured my heart. He cannot stand the thought of losing his precious Livy, after being devestated by the loss of his wife. He will do anything to prevent this from happening. Even kidnap a vampire.

Paul is aware of the Immortals that works around him. He works in the Research and Development and is privy to information that the normal human is not. And the thought that he can save his daughter by "turning" her is the answer to his prayers--with Jeanne Louise being the beautiful answer.

Paul kidnaps Jean Louise, taking her to his home, where he chains her to a bed and becomes her "gentle jailer". He doesn't want to hurt her--but instead, convince her to turn his ailing daughter to save her from a painful death.

Jeanne Louise wakes up to find herself a prisoner to the handsome human, Paul Jones. And what's more? He is her life mate. And because of their laws, she can only turn one.

Who will receive this special gift--the father who is her life mate, or the precious child dying of cancer?

This story is charming, somewhat predictable, but Sands captures such beautiful emotion in this heartwarming story about a father's love and desperation for his child. I missed the humorous side which Sands is great at layering throughout her stories. But with such a serious subject matter, the reader doesn't get much of that.

Also, the other members of the family come in later for a quick peek. And Lucian, the patriarch of this family, has an important hand in the outcome of Jeanne Louise and Paul's HEA.

BOOK REVIEW: UNDER A VAMPIRE MOON ~ LYNSAY SANDS

Title: Under A Vampire Moon

Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages

What I love about the Argeneau Series is the quirky humor that plays a major role in these books. Lynsay tickles the funny bone while teasing you with her sexy characters. I must admit that I have found the last one or two books of her series not my favorites, but I am a dedicated reader. And unless the book has taken a major turn for the worse, I tend to finish a series.

Under A Vampire Moon is the story of Christian Notte and how he finds his mate, Carolyn Connor on the uber romantic isle of St. Lucia.  There is zip-lining, boating, an exclusive beach resort, and yeah---one HOT smexy vamp that is trying to keep it a secret that he is a vamp.

Book Blurb:

Christian Notte's story, the sixteenth book in the Argeneau series is set on an island paradise called St. Lucia. After a bad relationship and an even worse divorce, Carolyn decides to go on a long overdue and much needed vacation with the 'girls'. Only the rest of the vacationers didn't get the memo. Around every corner there seems to be another couple celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary and the few single men she does see are far too young to even consider, including an irresistibly attractive rock violinist she meets. It's really too bad he's so young but in the end it doesn't matter because according to his cousin, Giacinta, women in general aren't Christian's type. But there's a catch, Christian needs Carolyn's help. He needs her to be his beard (to play the part of his fake girlfriend) for the week to appease his 'machismo' family. Carolyn just can't seem to say No and decides to help Gia's cousin. The only problem is that being around Christian and acting like they are a loving couple is wreaking havoc on her emotions. Carolyn's thoughts keep drifting back to places they shouldn't, like kissing his full lips or feeling his broad shoulders under her fingertips... good lord, she's in trouble.

I was ready to pack my bags and take a trip by the end of this book. And it also made me realize why I love Sands' books in the first place.

You get to visit with the familiar vampires of her stories--and Marguerite is at it again with her match-making.  There is also someone trying to kill Carolyn...

Usually with a series that has a ton of books under their belt, there's a chance that the books kind of fizzle out. But I don't see that happening in Lynsay's case. There seems to be more stories to tell--and I for one am looking forward to just where she will take me.
