GUEST BLOGGER AND BOOK SPOTLIGHT ~ SULTRY IN STILETTOS BY NANA MALONE

I would like to welcome Nana Malone to Where's My Muse as our guest blogger today and am excited to be a part of her blog tour sponsored by Sizzling PR Presents ~

Welcome Nana!

When I started writing my first book (which now sits in the bottom drawer in my office), I immediately grabbed my laptop and started banging out a manuscript knowing nothing about characterization, plot or the writing business. Like so many newbie “have a lot to learn” writers, I said things like, “How difficult could it be?” An adorable heroine, sexy hero, a cute meet, sprinkle some acerbic wit and bam, you have a book.

God, I had no idea. Who knew I needed plot, characterization, some magical writing and heaps of luck?

After several failed attempts at gluing a haphazard plot together for my first book, I got myself some craft books. Make that lots of craft books, joined RWA, signed up for every class I could get my hands on, and found the best critique partner that a newbie like me deserved or could ask for. She’s been patient, but honest. Tells me what I don’t want to hear, encourages me to be the best writer I can be and I’m so honored to call her a friend and one of my favorite authors, Misty Evans. If you’ve never read her, you’re missing out!

Over the years I’ve met some amazing writers. Women who pour their hearts out onto the paper. Those who plot, those who pants it. All of them hustling towards an impossible goal while traversing the land mines of day job, significant others, kids and personal lives.

Because now, 12 years later, four books, over a hundred rejection letters and experiences I wouldn’t trade for a pair of Prada pumps, (Let’s be honest, I might trade the experience for some Louboutins), I know what work goes into being a writer. The pain, pleasure, joy of it. The sweat and the literal tears. It’s in my blood now.

The In Stilettos Series came out of my love of my girlfriends and fashion.  You mention a book, show or movie that includes fashion and chances are I’ve watched it and lusted after the clothes and shoes.  Although, let’s be honest, most of the shoes I love to look at I could never wear as I have an aversion to being uncomfortable.

With Sultry in Stilettos, I wanted to explore those friendships that turn into something more.  It doesn’t always happen, as evidenced by the original 90210, but when it does, every inner shy girl with a secret crush rejoices.  Ricca spends so much time taking care of other people, she never goes after what she wants.  And Beckett has never given love a chance until one kiss under the mistletoe changes everything.

Shy, Fantasy Event Planner, Ricca Munroe has never been lucky in love, so when the latest in a long line of Mr. Oh So Wrongs publicly dumps her, she focuses on her career.  All she has to do to land the job of a lifetime is work side-by-side with the one man who can break her heart.

Beckett Mills has never been in love. Personal entanglements are a recipe for disaster—that is until one kiss from Ricca Munroe changes everything.  Beckett needs this job to fulfill a promise he made.  All he has to do is resist the seductive charms of his best friend.

Can Ricca come out of her shell to land her dream job and the love of her life? Can Beckett trust himself enough to actually fall in love and still keep the promise he made?

Warning: Sexy, sass talking women will make you laugh, cry and want a pair of killer footwear.

About the Author:

Nana's love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she borrowed from her cousin. It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She's been in love with kick butt heroines ever since.
With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

Waiting for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.
Though, until that ninja job comes through, you'll find her acting out scenes for hubby, baby and puppy while catching up on her favorite reality television shows in sunny San Diego.

Trashy's Holiday Traditions

When I was a little girl, one of my favorite Christmas traditions was writing a letter to Santa. I didn't mail it; instead, I put it in my stocking for Santa to read when he came down the chimney on Christmas Eve. I believed that Santa's bag was magic, and he could pull out anything I wanted. Hmm... anything I want....

It's been a long, long time since my name has been anywhere near the nice list, so this year, I'm writing a letter from my naughty alter-ego, Trashy Writer.

Dear Santa:

Don't bother looking at your nice list for my name. You know where to find me. Thank you for the Kindle Fire you brought me last year. I knew being on your naughty list had benefits. (And I promise I won't tell anyone.)

This Christmas I would like:

1. My muse in nothing but a big red bow. No, that's what I asked for last year. (And I didn't get it!) This year I want him in beat-up jeans, dusty boots, and a black cowboy hat. Save the horse.... ;)

2. A really good bottle of scotch (and by good I mean $$) wrapped in a hot Scot in a short kilt.

3. My favorite morally ambiguous lawyer and his twisted best friend. Yes, both of them together. Those boys know how to make a girl the center of their attention.

(Are you detecting a theme here, Santa?)

4. A scary sexy hero with a dark, mysterious past and a scar or two he can tell stories about. And he doesn't need a lot of sleep.

5. Oh! And a football player. One with long blond hair and badass moves that give quarterbacks nightmares.

6. Chocolate.

I think that'll keep me entertained until next Christmas. You must have a pretty good sugar buzz going by now, so there's beer in the fridge and a bag of chips in the pantry. Help yourself to whatever you want.

Love,

Trashy

You didn't expect this to be a traditional holiday traditions post, did you? ;)

If I'd written a letter like that when I was a kid, my mother would've dropped a lump of coal in my stocking and set it on fire. My whole family wrote stocking letters, including my dad. He promised to leave Santa beer, too. Wait... my dad was Santa. Funny how that worked.

Will I get what I want from Santa this year? We'll see. But as long as I have my imagination and a quiet hour to daydream, I'll make my own holiday tradition magic.

Book Excerpt--(18+ and older)

"I had the weirdest dream." I snuggled closer to him, feeling his heart beat steady under my cheek.

His hand slipped between my thighs. I was still wet. "Was it about him?"

"Yes."

His heart beat faster against my side. "Be a good slut and tell me about it." He smiled. "Don't leave anything out."

The glimmer in his eyes made me wonder what he was hoping for. Alex had invaded my sleep before—even hotter than this one. Will liked hearing all the dirty details. Strange, but if it turned him on, what was the harm in telling him? Still, I never said Alex's name.

"I got up for a drink and he was in the kitchen."

"Were you naked?"

"Yes, but he wasn't. He pinned me against the wall and fucked me."

"Mmm... did you like fucking another guy?" The hand between my legs probed my wet flesh, and his fingers slipped inside me.

"Yeah." I smiled and sweat sprinkled my skin.

Will understood, like no one else ever had, my need for variety. I'd never been with anyone as long as I'd been with Will because... well, they soon bored me. He gave me free rein to flirt with anyone. I tried hard not to cross the line, but he never got mad, never showed any emotion at all.

Sometimes, he seemed to like it.

I dragged my mouth up his neck and flicked my tongue in his ear. "He made me come." I smiled on his hot skin, knowing my dream orgasms would make him hard.

He groaned and draped my thigh over his hips, grinding his cock against my mound. "How many times?"

"Um...." I stalled, teasing him. "Twice."

He kissed me, fucking my mouth with his tongue. "Was he fucking you both times?"

"No. The first time he was fingering my button."

His amused smile told me he liked my silly words for my girl parts. "And he fucked you after that?" He teased my pink flesh with his cock.

I gnawed my lip and buried my face against his shoulder, nipping it. "Yes."

"That's my girl." His cock slid inside me as his big hand cupped my ass and held my body against his.

My fingers tangled in Will's long hair and I kissed him, moaning into his mouth and trying not to remember how Alex's cock had felt in my dream. Would it feel that good in real life? No—don't go there.

Then I remembered something else—a new element in my dreams. What would Will think if he knew he was in it too? "You were watching us."

About the Author:   I got hooked on trashy romance novels in junior high, but my mom took them away from me. She couldn’t stop me from daydreaming, though. After I got married, I wrote some of my naughtier daydreams down and sent them to Playgirl magazine, which published two of them. I kept daydreaming and writing stories until my dirty stories turned into trashy books.
I live in Colorado, but I’ll always be a loyal Wisconsin Cheesehead. When I’m not lusting after my next bad boy hero, I’m looking for inspiration in sci-fi and action movies, football players, bloodsucking lawyers, muscle cars, and kick-butt chicks.

I’m known as ""Trashy Writer"" at various social media sites. I call myself a trashy writer because I want my readers to know that I enjoy mindless escapism as much as they do. I’m not out to win a Pulitzer Prize. I just want to help someone relax and get away from it all for a little while. I write romance, erotica and trash for fun and pleasure.

LACEY WOLFE ~ GUEST BLOGGER -- AND AUTHOR OF BOUND BY PLEASURE

I would like to welcome author, Lacey Wolfe, to Where's My Muse as she talks about one of my favorite genres of romance: BDSM...and her latest book, Bound by Pleasure

Researching BDSM

Bound By Pleasure is the first BDSM I’ve written. I’ve read several and I had a general idea on the lifestyle, but I couldn’t write it blindly. I had to research the relationship between a Dom and a sub. I needed to know what objects looked like, such as a flogger or spreader bar. So, I turned to my search engine for help, along with a few authors who already write this genre.

I first want to say, when I sit down and read a BDSM book, I don’t picture the women or men the way I saw them in pictures. But, like most, I am reading these books for the fantasy. Do I really want to be tied up and spanked with a flogger? Eh…no. It looks like it would hurt.

During my research on various sites, I began to understand the lifestyle more. Aside from the pictures, I found the bond that the two consenting adults must have for one another must be strong. It’s full of trust and knowing that the other one knows what the other needs and will take care of them. The relationship isn’t taken lightly. And I hope in my new release, Bound By Pleasure, I was able to portray just how strong a bond like this can be.

One of my favorite things that I researched were the collars. There were so many different types, materials, and designs. The collar is a symbol of two people being joined together in the lifestyle.

Bound By Pleasure is, by far, the book I have done the most research for. If you decide to pick it up, I hope you enjoy it! I love hearing from readers, feel free to stop by my website, facebook, or twitter to give me your thoughts.

Can Megan let her guard down enough to experience the pleasures Greg has to offer?

As an erotic romance author who has spent hours researching the BDSM lifestyle, Megan thinks she knows all about it. But when she decides to explore it firsthand, she quickly learns that there's a lot she doesn't know.

Greg isn't your typical Dom. He's an artist, and his life is anything but organized. He likes Megan from the start. She's honest and he sees something different in her. The more time he spends with her, the more he finds himself acting in ways he never has before. He's developing feelings for her, and he's hopeful Megan might be feeling the same way, but every time he tries to get her to open up to him, it seems that she takes a huge step back.

Megan has a hard time expressing herself, a problem that only intensified when her ex criticized her every time she tried to share her feelings. As a result, she learned to bite her tongue and keep her emotions hidden. So when she begins to fall in love with Greg, she isn't sure how to tell him, or even if she should tell him. But she fears if she doesn't open up to him soon, she may lose him. Can Megan find the courage she needs before it's too late?

Red River Gazette

Serial Killer in Red River??

By Dave Digger

With the rash of recent murders in Red River this reporter has to wonder if maybe we don't have a Serial Killer in our fine town. While the police have not come to the public with the truth yet, I’ve dug up some facts that lead me to believe our safe little town is no longer virginal when it comes to violence. Our cherry has been popped, dear readers, and evil has invaded the serenity we have come to count on.

After tracking down Detective Ethan Parker, Red River’s finest assigned to the case, I questioned him in regards to the heinous crimes. When asked about possible suspects, Detective Parker replied, “We’re looking at several suspects at this time.” Then I dug deeper into the details of the murder. “Digger, you know we have to keep the facts under wraps to protect the integrity of the case. But I will say these murders are among the most grizzly I’ve seen in my law enforcement career.” Detective Parker then added, “I would suggest residents lock their doors and take extra care.”

Unsatisfied with these vague answers, I continued in my quest for more information. After some serious research, I discovered local ultrasound technician, Abigail Montgomery, knew each of the victims. Is there a connection between these murders and the blonde hospital employee? Red River citizens deserve an answer!

I stalked…um, followed Ms. Montgomery for several days, only to discover this twisted tale takes quite a turn. I spotted the sultry blonde and the local detective at The Red River Café. After several hours of surveillance (and an unexpected scuffle inside the café) I was shocked to find a connection between the two. Yes, it appears the detective and Ms. Montgomery are romantically involved. To confirm this revelation, I returned to Detective Montgomery.

When asked if he was in The Red River Café, the detective said, “Yes, I was. An altercation occurred between two locals, and I dealt with the situation.” When asked about his involvement with Ms. Abigail Montgomery, the detective responded with a resounding, “No comment.” For this reporter, the answer is an unequivocal YES. But then I have to wonder, if all the victims in this case were friends of Ms. Montgomery, does this new involvement spell danger for our local detective? Has the fetching blonde unwittingly helped Detective Parker put his name at the top of the serial killer’s list?

All I can say is lock your doors, dear readers. Sleep with one eye open. And pray this nightmarish murder spree ends soon.

Find out whether Detective Ethan Parker and Abigail Montgomery survive,
and if Red River’s serial killer is captured….

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT AND GUEST BLOGGER ~TABITHA RAYE

I'd like to welcome author, Tabitha Raye, to my blog today as our Guest Blogger and our featured Author. I am happy to be a part of her book tour with Sizzling PR and promoting her book, A Clockwork Butterfly.

Thank you so much for letting me gate crash your blog today C.S!

Mary, Mary, quite contrary...

I've never belonged to any clubs - or if I have, I haven't lasted too long - forgetting when the meetings are, or not doing 'the homework' - I'm not one for routine and if I have an allotted writing time, I will spend it painting my bathroom, or building an impossible sculpture from found scrap materials. I think I am what you might call contrary. This means that sometimes in my stories, I will also be slightly contrary, or not quite sure of where my writing fits. In A Clockwork Butterfly I flirted with different genres - it is futuristic, fantasy, steam punk, erotica, romance, BDSM, ménage, it has elements of all of these things but doesn't really follow strict rules on them - I guess it is kind of a mirror image of myself - an eclectic jack of all trades! Here's hoping there's something to tickle your fancy... throughout it all, at the heart of everything though, it is a love story. And I love to celebrate love - in all its forms - especially the physical - that is one place where I find constancy at least!

GUEST BLOGGER ~ CLARK HAYS AND KATHLEEN McFALL -- BLOOD AND WHISKEY

WELCOME, CLARK HAYS AND KATHLEEN McFALL, AUTHORS OF BLOOD AND WHISKEY

Also, check out the Blog Tour Giveaway Rafflecopter below at end of post.

Character Envy

Writing together, especially romances, can make for strange jealousies.

By: Clark Hays and Kathleen McFall

In 1999, we came up with a radical plan to save our romance: write together. We had just reunited after an epic break up that required a several-year cooling off period. When a not-so-chance meeting rekindled the flames, we decided to channel some of the excess passion into a joint creative project to hopefully avoid total combustion.

The Cowboy and the Vampire: A Darkly Romantic Mystery (Midnight Ink, 2010) — and a newly entangled romance — was the result. This May, we finished our second book, Blood and Whiskey, and we learned something important: our characters lead far more romantic lives than we do.

Of course, they’re also dealing with murderous vampire hordes, cold-blooded killers straight out of the old west, biblical prophecies, undead race wars and the care and feeding of an overly-sensitive dog-cow-dog named Rex. But even with all of that, and even setting aside the fact they are from very different worlds — she needs human blood to live, he’s more of whiskey drinker — Tucker and Lizzie have a romance for the ages.

It may be petty, but we’re kind of jealous.

And not just of the main characters. Elita, the fierce, sexy vampire warrior sworn to protect Lizzie, has seduced her way through half the undead world and left a trail of drained human bodies — stone cold dead but with smiles on their faces — stretching back thousands of years. In Blood and Whiskey, she finds herself sandwiched happily between a handsome Russian vampire, Rurik, and his supermodel human consort, Virote.

Us? Well, we find ourselves sandwiched between deadlines.

Early on, we figured that when romantic partners wrote together, it would involve far more reclining on satin sheets, sipping champagne and whispering sweet plotlines to one another. The truth is far less, well, romantic. Here’s what a typical exchange between us sounds like (names changed to protect the not-so-innocent):

Chuck: Did you finish your chapter yet?

Cathy: Almost, did you finish yours?

Chuck: I need about two hundred more words and a better description of the thing.

Cathy: What thing?

Chuck: The thing. In the mountains. With Elita.

Cathy: Oh yeah. I forgot about that. Should we talk about the next chapters?

Etc., until bed time.

Compare that to a scene from Blood and Whiskey featuring Tucker and Lizzie:

“Do you ever, you know, take a look when I’m dead? Does it turn you on to have a naked corpse next to you?”

“Woman, don’t be gross.”

“I’d probably take a peek. I mean, I do anyway, at least when you are sleeping. What’s the difference? It’s perfectly natural.” She nipped at his neck playfully.

“It’s un-natural. That’s why they call you un-dead.”

“Is what I’m feeling now, un-horny?”

“I’m pretty sure it’s the pregnancy hormones getting you all riled up.”

She unbuttoned her shirt and slipped his hand under, molding it around her breast and they both sighed. “You sure you haven’t felt me up when I’m cold and dead? I wouldn’t mind. And I wouldn’t know it if you, you know, did stuff to me.”

“No. I mean, yeah, I’m sure. I’d like to do stuff to you now though.”

“I like that idea.”

Is it any wonder we’re a little jealous?

Still, just in case it sounds like we’re complaining, we don’t write all the time. And the passion we channel into our characters has to come from somewhere.

GUEST BLOGGER ~ ELISE WHYLES -- THE FORSAKEN SERIES

WELCOME, ELISE WHYLES, TO 'WHERE'S MY MUSE?'
presented by
SizzlingPR

The Forsaken Series: A dark, fairytale paranormal series featuring vampires, demons, succubus, and many other mystical creatures.

Creating a believable world.

In every genre your world building is key. With some genres the world is already built you just fill in the romance, mystery, or what have you. When you start to do books in paranormal, fantasy, and other like genres you have to build the world from scratch. How do you do it? How can you as an author build a world the reader will be drawn into and hooked and finish the book thinking I wish I could go there?

Its not an easy thing to do. There's a lot of thought, work goes into the process. With some beings such as vampires, werewolves etc we have an idea established about them - not always the way an author sees it but if the reader thinks vampires are all blood sucking males who are allergic to the sun how can you work with that while building something original? You have to stretch it.

When we started on Forsaken Series, we had a generalized idea of what we were wanting to do. What species we were thinking of, what we felt were overdone or had flooded the market. So we decided we need to build worlds for each species, make them all connected much like earth and give each one its own social, political, and legal system. Meant a lot of time spent in google chat I tell you, I think we wore it out there for a while, lol. But the overall ideas, the feel we wanted was there.

Would I suggest building twenty different worlds at once - uh never again - but when you're starting out you don't know. So after many weeks of chats, of brainstorming and ideas being bounced around, we figured out there were three things we each needed to do to be sure our worlds were what the reader could get into and believe.

1. Each world is just enough like Earth to be believable without being cliched. There are marked differences, but if you read from one to the next there's one sun, one moon, seasons, connections to earth in many forms.

2. Vivid, technicolor threads throughout. No world is the same, and we've worked hard to ensure the descriptions of our worlds are spot on and key to the story, the plot, the series.

3. Fun. Even in the dark, edgy tone of these books the reader will see there are things about our worlds that are fun. From the parties, to sunsets, to culture shocks...there's something a reader can relate to.

Something we also did was have a blast with planning and creating. None of what we've done was easy, but we took our time and hashed it out. Open and solid communication is key to building that believable world in the books.

GUEST BLOGGER ~ MARGARITA FELICES --JUDGEMENT OF SOULS

I would like to welcome Margarita Felices, author of JUDGEMENT OF SOULS, to my blog today as she steps in my shoes to fill in for the day. This is part of her Bewitching Book Tour.

Thank you for having me with you today. I look forward to spending time here and answering any questions that you have for me.

My name is Margarita Felices. I am a new author who loves writing and reading supernatural, especially anything regarding vampires.

My novel is called JUDGEMENT OF SOULS 3: The Kiss at Dawn. It’s a trilogy which I have started at the end and I intend to write the prequels.

I hope that when all three are finished they can stand alone as individual books or can be read as one big book with no gaps. At least that’s the plan.

My main character is called Rachel. She wasn’t always a vampire. She was born from two pureblood vampires and was embraced into her vampire life at sixteen. Just before her sixteenth birthday Max arrived at the Elysium, the vampire haven. Tall, dark, handsome and just so charming. He had seen wonders in the world that a young naïve girl had just dreamed about. But why, with all the female attention he was attracting, would he want to spend all his time with such a young girl?

Rachel’s parents were the guardians and teachers of the most important book in the vampire existence, the Book of Cain. It contained the names of each vampiric soul, but it also held the sacred chants that would bring the most feared demon back from the Underworld, Lilleth, the mother of all who are kindred. And Max wants that book.

While Rachel is transforming into her new life, Max steals the book and leaves the Elysium and when she returns she finds that Max has gone and her parents have been banished from the safety of the Elysium. So Rachel decides it’s up to her to find Max and get the book back.

The Righteous are a group of Knights from as far back as the Crusades. Brothers in arms to the Knights Templar and the Knights of St John they have held onto that book for centuries and have it well hidden. They are enemies to all that are supernatural, after centuries of hunting and murdering them all.

Now in modern day, Rachel meets Daniel, a nightclub owner and his group of friends and after Daniel’s best friend is murdered by Max, becomes embroiled in the search for the Book of Cain. Rachel tries to fight off her feelings for Daniel, even siding with her Vampire friend Arun to think again about Daniel’s involvement, but he’s her love and she’s going to protect him, no matter what.

Book Synopsis

If you have to find a sacred book in order to redeem your parents, find and kill Max, the person responsible for their punishment. The same man that broke your heart and turned your perfect world upside down and try to keep the mortal man you now love safe from this vindictive Vampire’s sword, then you should read Rachel’s story.

JUDGMENT OF SOULS is a Gothic horror in which a naïve pureblood Vampire is tossed into the mortal world. Rachel meets Daniel, a nightclub owner and his group of friends and after Daniel’s best friend is murdered by Max, becomes embroiled in the search for an ancient Vampire artefact. Rachel tries to fight off her feelings for Daniel, even siding with her Vampire friend Arun to think again about Daniel’s involvement, but he’s her love and she’s going to protect him, no matter what.
