HE’S PLAYING GAMES
Though Rylann Pierce tried to fight the sparks she felt for billionaire heir Kyle Rhodes the night they met, their sizzling chemistry was undeniable. But after being stood up on their first date, Rylann never expected to see him again. So when she finds herself face to face with Kyle in a courthouse nine years later, she’s stunned. More troubling to the beautiful Assistant U.S. Attorney is that she’s still wildly attracted to him.
BUT SHE’S MAKING THE RULES
Just released from prison, Kyle Rhodes isn’t thrilled to be the star witness in a high-profile criminal case — but when Rylann comes knocking at his door, he finds she may be the one lawyer he can’t say no to. Still as gorgeous and sharp-tongued as ever, she lays down the law: she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. But Kyle won’t give up on something he wants — and what he wants is the one woman he’s never forgotten...

Book Review:
This is only the second Julie James book for me--but I must say, I will be reading more. I truly enjoyed this story from start to finish.
ABOUT THAT NIGHT is about starting over for both the hero and the heroine. And a chance meeting long ago that left an impression in both Rylann and Kyle's life.
Synopsis:
Rylann Pierce has been expecting a proposal from her boyfriend of three years, Jon. Instead, he flies off to Italy--without her. Determined to start fresh and giving herself six months to get over him, she moves back to Illinois and accepts a new job as US Assistant District Attorney in Chicago.
After finding out is girlfriend, Daniela, has slept with someone else and breaks up with him via Twitter, Kyle Rhodes takes out his anger on the Internet and shuts down the huge Internet Mogul for twenty four hours. Now he is under "penthouse" arrest after spending several months in the MCC--the slammer--and awaiting his trial.
Kyle sure as hell doesn't expect Rylann to walk into the courtroom, much less be the prosecuting attorney that holds his fate in her hands. The date-that-never-happened nine years ago with Rylann Pierce has always lingered in the back of his mind. But he vividly remembers what attracted him to her in the first place and wants to pick up where they left off.
Rylann cannot let her attraction to Kyle interfere with her job. There is no one in hell that they can sleep together. Even after Kyle has been released with time served, Kyle is now a witness to a murder case that she is working on. No matter how much he flashes those sexy dimples, her clothes must stay on. She has had career plan worked out to the minute and it doesn't include getting involved with an ex-con.
All the characters are likable in James's book. I wanted to hang out with Rylann and her BFF, Rae...those two seemed like they could get in some serious laugh-out-loud trouble. There is plenty of zingers and one-liners that continued to crack me up and I found Rylann's snarky side very appealing.
"You know, you really are a burr up my ass."
Rylann laughed hard at that, reaching up to cup his face. "Why, Kyle Rhodes. You say the sweetest things."
There is a palpable sexual chemistry between Rylann an Kyle when they get together. I love it when you can actually "feel" the sexual tension between the characters--almost like you are experiencing it yourself. Kyle Rhodes is a computer geek/genius, billionaire, dimple flashin', dirty-talkin', SAWYER-look-a-like that is so damn easy to fall for, that I found myself screaming at Rylann in my head. It went something like this: "ARE YOU CRAZY, WOMAN??? JUMP HIM NOW!!!!!" And for those of you who don't know who Sawyer from Lost looks like and have been hiding under a rock (just kidding, lol), here is a picture to wrap your mind around and gaze at, drool, and use as a screen saver.

I have about 80 pages left of this book. Will finish tonight. My friend Keeshe texted me to hop my ass on AIM so she can gripe about a certain book I bought her. LOL.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I loved A Lot Like Love. Kyle won me in that book and he was just a side character. Of course, I totally did not get the Sawyer deal because I don't watch it.
Julie has won me with A Lot Like Love. I NEED to get the first book and others of hers.
