This week's question:

What book have you read recently that has surprised you (good or bad!), or that has been outside your normal reading genre?

First off, I try NOT to read out of genre. Not to say that I haven't ever done that. My least fave genre is historical. Which is quite funny, cause that was what I grew up reading ( The Wolf and the Dove, The Velvet Promise, Shanna, etc...).

Also, I don't like to call attention to books that **whispers**I didn't quite enjoy. Writing is hard. And I never want to bad mouth an author's work--it just doesn't seem professional as a blogger. I try to give constructive criticism and never bash.

How about I use the word disappointing?  That sounds better.

And I'll go even one step further and offer you one good and one disappointing.

The Wolf Who Loved Me ~This is an historical book that I surprisingly enjoyed and laughed while reading. I will most definitely read a Lydia Dare historical romance.

Matthew ~This book was a disappointment for me. Yes, it was also an historical, but I typically love reading this author. She has written under another name, Beth Williamson--and I have been pleased with the books I have read by her. That is why I was so looking forward to Matthew. And it just didn't do it for me.

What about you? What book have you read recently that surprised you or left you with just feeling "meh..."

  1. I steer clear from Cowboy books because I can't relate to homesteads and horses.

  3. Hey girl thanks for following. I've not read this books but as I love westerns and cowboys I might give Matthew a try. As for your question of my DLS...it was kind of crazy. I got lost a bit if I didn't read who the email was from but at some point I didn't even had to look at who it was coming from. I just knew...

  4. I've heard good things about the Lydia Dare book. haven't heard about the other one though. I love historical romance, but only the regency era, but I haven't read as many as I used to.

The great thing about books it that just because I didn't particularly love it, doesn't mean that someone else won't :)

  7. I <3 historical! I understand about not bashing an author and it being unprofessional. But you can def be disappointed in a book & point out what you didn't like about it. Constructive criticism at its best!
