Ryan Cosgrove and Liliana Delgado are on a collision course with destiny. They don’t know it yet, but before the night is over their lives will be forever changed.
Spending Valentine’s Day at a burlesque bar, hadn’t been Liliana’s ideal way of spending a Friday night. She’d much rather be back on campus doing homework… until she meets Ryan. Tall, athletic, and gorgeous, Lili can’t keep her eyes off him, and despite his gruff manners and drunken disposition she’s intrigued.
Ryan’s got demons, and they’re deep, dark, and eating him alive. Regardless of his attraction to the petite brunette he’s tired of fighting, of pretending the last fifteen years haven’t been a daily struggle just to get out of bed every morning. That night he decides to end his pain, to leave it all behind and float away into the blessed darkness of oblivion. But fate has other plans for him, Lily finds and rescues Ryan, determined she’ll not only save his body, but his soul too.
This is their moment…
Book Review
I truly enjoyed Marie Hall's brutal and sometimes very dark telling of Ryan and Liliana's story. And I loved her approach to the telling the tale. How, in our lives, a moment can change everything.
Although Ryan and Liliana share one brief moment when their life is on the precipice of something major--and will be changed forever--it is not until seven years later that the two meet up and collide in a moment that will rock their very foundations.
Liliana struggles as a single mother whose son is autistic, an ailing mother, and college classes. She has put relationships on hold to focus on the three things that matter to her the most: her son, her mother, and her future.
The closest she has come to having any type of a relationship with the opposite sex is with the cute guy at the local coffee shop--Alex--who at one time showed an interest, but now is just a good friend.
Alex asks her to hang out with him and his brother for Valentine's Day night and for once, Liliana accepts. Especially after much prodding from her mother, who wants Lili to live her life and have fun for once.
When Liliana comes face to face with Ryan, Alex's brother, she is instantly attracted to his dark looks and his moodiness only intrigues her. And the moment when Ryan's pain bleeds out literally in the bathtub when he tries to take his life, Liliana cannot pull herself away.
Ryan and Liliana are drawn to each other and over time their relationship develops with very small baby steps. Ryan still struggles with the shame and pain that engulfs him from his past. And Liliana is desperate for him to share that pain with her. Only he cannot break the silence and it may end up killing any chance they have of a future together.
A Moment is a brutal, heart-wrenching story with dark secrets that may be hard to swallow. But Marie Hart doesn't back down and paints her words with painful truths of abuse and the traumatic effect they can leave on our soul.
A Moment is riveting and honest.
