Book Review
I really waffled with this short, sexy, erotic novella. I went from liking the heroine to not liking her. I can't really pinpoint what exactly didn't set right with me, but there was just that...something...that got on my nerves a time or two.
As for the sexy times--the build-up is hot-hot-hot and then--BAM--they're done. I would have liked to see a bit more post-coital connection between Kayla and Gannon. It seemed like a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of sex when they finally got together. And being that Gannon had those kind of relationships in the past, it would have been great to see more of the post-game show, so to speak.
But for what The First Night is--a sexy, erotic, novella--it does deliver. There is a chemistry between Kayla and Gannon that the author portrays rather well in the short length. But sometimes the scenes come across as too choppy. I must admit to being a fan of meaty stories, so that is all on me. All in all--it's hard to get an in-depth story in only fifty-eight pages, but Tate manages to whet your appetite and have you feeling all tingly with her very sexy bartender, Gannon.
And kudos for Tate on picking a unique and very sexy name for her hero. LOVED it.
Novella Synopsis:
Kayla Dobbs has always put her job, her career and her education first in her life. She has never had time for any serious relationship. But one night out with her friend from work and she starts to realize her libido needs a wakey-wakey.
Enter sexy bartender Gannon. He is a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy. And when he spots Kayla, the past he has been trying to run from and all his insecurities come rushing back.
Gannon knows who Kayla is the moment she walks into his bar. But she doesn't recognize the shy, pimply, teenager from her high school. There is no denying that Kayla is very attracted to this new version of Gannon. He's built, muscled, oozes sexual charisma and charm. But Gannon wants Kayla to want the man he is inside.
Kayla is totally confused by the on again, off again sexual vibes that Gannon keeps throwing her way. One minute he seems hot to trot, the next--he's kicking her out of his apartment. Maybe she's better off forgetting about the one night stand that almost happened and move on with her life.
But when she finds out that Gannon is the sweet, shy boy she knew in high school, Kayla is determined to get to the bottom of the truth.
