Book Blurb:
She came to him when he needed her the most.
She came to him at his lowest point. The voice of an angel, a whisper in the dark. She's the only thing that gets Nathan Kelly through his captivity, the endless days of torture and the fear that he'll never return to his family. With her help, he's able to escape. But he isn't truly free, because now she's disappeared and he's left with an all-consuming emptiness as he struggles to pick up the pieces of his life. Did he imagine his angel? Or is she out there, needing his help as he'd once needed hers?
Now he rushes to save her before it's too late.
Shea has been on the run from people who will stop at nothing to exploit her unique abilities. She never wanted to drag Nathan, who'd already suffered so much, into danger, but she doesn't have a choice so she reaches out to him for help. Finally face-to-face after having already formed a soul-deep bond in hell, their emotional connection is even more powerful than their telepathic one. Nathan refuses to consider ever letting her go again, but she worries they can never have a life free of the dangers that dog her every step. He'll protect her with his every breath, but can he convince her that they are meant to face these threats together?
Book Review--4 Stars / Sensual Rating: 4 stars
Before I do a review of a book, I usually take a peek over on Goodreads to see what others thought about the story.
This one was all over the board. Some loved-some hated the paranormal angle in the book. And although I can see why—the first three had NO paranormal themes whatsoever—I don’t think it took away from the romance of the story. And that to me is one important key element. Also, I loved revisiting the Kelly brood. We get to see all the brothers, their women, and their parents. Rusty, too! Their strength is their love for each other-their willingness to help each other, no matter what. Although, in real life, families aren’t usually like the Kellys-that is the main reason why I LOVE this series.
That being said, I was surprised that the story took on a paranormal twist and didn’t see THAT coming—at all. And as much as I love, love, love, Maya’s books, I have to admit to being a tad disappointed that she went that way. HOWEVER—an author writes what she sees, and that is what she saw for Nathan. If you think about it, with Nathan being held captive and tortured in Afghanistan, Shea was the perfect heroine to help him. She was the only one who could find him—even if it’s telepathically, through her mind.
If you have already read the book, then you are aware that the next KGI book will also contain those elements. Shea has a sister, Grace, whose telepathic healing abilities puts her life in mortal danger. Rio and his team are out there searching for her at the end of Whispers In The Dark. The next book, Echoes At Dawn, will be Rio and Grace’s story. So be forewarned—if paranormal ain’t your bag, it WILL be in the next book.
And I will still continue to read, Maya-cause I grown to love the characters you have created in this series.
What I’m looking forward to:
Can I just say, I LURVE Swanny? I just wanted to grab him, hold him, and snuggle in the covers with him for DAYS. And I have it on good authority that if Maya has anything to say about it , Swanny will get his story, too. That just put me in my happy place.
Fave lines:
“Quit looking like you just got a hand job from a drag queen,” Garrett muttered beside him.
“I don’t give a fuck if they’re your sisters,” Swanson said as he hoisted Nathan’s sagging body. “I’ll kiss them just the same.”
Most romantic moment:
“How is it possible that you’re more beautiful in person than you were as an angel in my mind when I was in that hell? I didn’t think it was possible and yet here you are, so fucking exquisite that I can’t even talk around the damn knot in my throat.” ---Nathan.
