Welcome to Vamp City...
Book Review
Author Pamela Clare creates a paranormal world where vampires are a little more dark, a little more blood-thirsty, and a little more deadly.
In the 1800's, a powerful sorcerer created a protective barrier-a place for vampires to live-to protect them from the sun. An alternate plane hidden from humans. This 'world' is similar to Washington, D.C., yet much darker. Sunlight never shines in Vamp City. The land is somewhat barren and flowers never bloom. There are sinister creatures living here-vampires, weres, and other scary things that go bump in the night.
The magic used to create this world start to crumble and weaken and two unsuspectings human fall inside through the beams of light from the sun. There are holes in the barrier that magic has created and the search for another powerful sorcerer has started--someone to help strengthen the invisible walls around Vampire City before the Sun can fully penetrate its barrier.
While all that sounds nice and not in any way scary--the vampires in this alternate plane have taken humans as their slaves. It's not pretty. The humans are used to feed their hungers. And they're not just hungry for blood.
I don't want to give too much away because I loved reading about this twisted world that Clare created. And the sexy vampire, Arturo, is no Edward Cullen. He's darker and makes no apologies for his vampiric nature. But at his core is a somewhat moralistic vampire who lured me with his very sensual charms.
The heroine, Quinn Lennox, has always known she was somewhat different growing up. But she cannot believe what Arturo is telling her. She is the sorcerer that can strengthen the walls around Vampire City. She has a powerful magic embedded deep within, and no clue as to how to release it.
I cannot wait for book 2 of this very fascinating new series.
Maybe I should read this next, my mind is open for some UF lately.
