BOOK REVIEW ~ REAPER'S PROPERTY BY JOANNA WYLDE

Title: Reaper's Property
Author: Joanna Wylde
Release Date: January 9, 2013

Reviewer bought own copy of eBook for review

Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, bad-ass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.

But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.

Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.

Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.

Maybe.

Book Review

HOLY.HELL.

I can honestly say that the intensity I felt along with the fact that I absolutely LURVED, salivated, and yearned for Horse scared me a little.

Horse is the ultimate bad boy biker who comes across as crass, cold, and a huge ass. He has flaws and lots of them. And I still found him very sexy, very appealing, and yeah--I was immensely turned on. Of course, as the story plays out, you see a softer side that he doesn't show often, but is still there.

Reaper's Property is raw, jaw-dropping, and hair-pulling exciting. It's also a whole-lotta nasty, so if this ain't your thing, you might want to pass. It's not for the faint of heart. For me, it was a heaping dollop of awesome sauce times ten and I hated to see it end.

Now let's talk about Marie a bit because she also kicked ass as the heroine in this erotic romance. She admits to having no control when it comes to Horse, but she never loses her true self. She is sassy, funny, and loyal to a fault. In fact, it is her loyalty to her brother that leads her to be sucked into the alternative lifestyle of the MC ( Motorcycle Club) world.

Marie returns home after work and finds her brother surrounded by bikers and a gun aimed at his head. What follows next is a back-and-forth telling from present day to several weeks before--all told from Marie's POV.

At first, the story line was kind of hard to follow, but things smoothed out rather quickly and the pieces fell into place. The reader has learned that Marie has just left her violent and cheating ass of a husband and goes to live with her brother, Jeff, in their family's trailer. Their mother is away in prison for attempted assault of a police officer. They're not exactly the Cleavers, but there has always been a strong bond and a sense of loyalty between the siblings.

When a bunch of bikers show up outside Marie and her brother's trailer, her life is irrevocably changed. She finds herself shoved face-first inside a world with strange rules and stranger behavior. But there is no denying that just the sight of one particular biker, Horse, leaves Marie breathless and yearning to take a ride on the wild side. Despite his sometimes crass behavior, she still wants him.

Jeff has some kind of business relationship with the Reapers, although it was never made clear how their connection started. But now bikers are popping in and out of their home and making themselves at home. The metaphorical sparks fly around Horse and Marie, but despite their heated encounters, there is never any resolution. In other words, they never go all the way and Horse is left with a serious case of blue balls.

When her brother has been found dipping his hand into the Reaper's cookie jar, retribution must be taken. In order to save her brother's life, Marie agrees to go with Horse and do anything he says--no questions asked.  Horse has made it abundantly clear what his intentions are--Marie, naked, in his bed. Of course, my way was just a wee bit less crass than his.
"You do this, it's your choice. I'm not raping you. You're making a decision to pay for your brother's mistake on your back. You get me?"

Joanna is just a freakin' genius with how she played her story out--the jumping from past to present, the switching of POV's--works great for this book. And the dialogue alone between Marie and Horse about killed me. I went crazy with the highlight feature on my kindle. Here are just a few snippets to whet your appetite:

**CAUTION--contains spoilers ...don't read if you hate spoilers**
"Next time you want to play with your pretty pink toy, you do it while I'm watching. If you're a good girl, I'll let you wear the tee. Got it?"

"Just roll with it," he whispered. "And keep doing whatever exercises you do to make your cunt squeeze like that. They got a college degree for that?"

"Marie Caroline Jensen, will you do me the honor of being my permanent bitch?"

"I'll be your old lady and I'll wear your patch. But if you ever let some bitch shove her tits in your face again, I'll shoot you myself."

"That's why I do it. You're cute when you're pissed. Kind of like a wet kitten. Gets me hard."

"Fuck, this is gonna piss you off and then you aren't gonna let me stick my dick in you," he muttered.

"I want you to be my old lady, babe. That's all I have to offer. I'm a Reaper, and this is my world. You wear my patch, you be my woman and I'll be your man."

After I banged my head on my table, called myself all sorts of effed up for my obsession over Horse, I texted my girlfriend (Hey, Francesca!!) who was also reading the book. I had to make sure I wasn't the only out there who thought I was certifiable for liking this book so much. It made me feel a bit better to know that I was not the only one losing it over this story.

And here is another little quote from Reaper's Justice that explains my neurosis:
"I'm fine. I know this is sick, but that was incredible. I've never felt anything like it."

I seriously never wanted this book to end. I cannot wait for more of the Reaper's books!
