18 AND OVER BOOK BLOGGER FOLLOW ~ ROMANTIC TROPES

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend, hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines. This is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 & over crowd, and make some new friends!

How to join in:

  • You should run a book blog that features and reviews mostly adult reads.  Some Y.A.’s are okay but 18 and Over adult reads should be your majority.
  • Make a separate post for the 18 and Over Book Blogger Follow on your blog.
  • Copy the button above and place it at the top of your post.
  • List answer the ‘Question of the Week.’
  • Place your name and blog title in the linky below and the url for a direct link to your post.
  • Visit the other blogs on the list and say 'Hi!' Following each blog is not mandatory but I know it is always appreciated, and if someone comments saying they’re a new follower it’s polite to follow back. :) It’s always nice to spread the 18 and Over Over Book Blogging love!

Question of the Week: What is your favorite romantic trope to read about and which is your least favorite?

Most favorite:
Friends to lovers. Why? Well, being married for 20 + years I can attest on how important it is to LIKE the person you marry. It's like the backbone to a great relationship. And as far as reading, I love it when the hero is metaphorically slapped upside the head when he realizes the woman he wants and needs in his life has been right there all along. Sigh, Swoon.

Least Favorite:
Hmm...that's a toughie. If a story is written well and told in a way that engages me and has intriguing characters, then I'll read it. Doesn't matter to me if it lacks a little bit of originality.
But looking back at the books that I couldn't finish (and there have been a handful lately), it was the one dimensional characters that lacked depth and sympathy that stopped me from continuing--not the plot line.
So, I guess what I'm saying is I don't really have a least favorite. If you get me turning the pages and devouring your book, then you've done your job! And I am ever so thankful for losing myself in the fictional world you created.

What about you? I'd love to hear what you think--leave me a comment and let me know.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Sorry babe late in responding this week. I also love Friends To Lovers. Well said. I agree 100% with the least favorite. I have been on a kick too lately with novels I can not finish. I usually try to finish them and takes me a while. Then I end up giving 2 stars, but lately I am not even doing that. I am just not finishing them and leaving no review. I am so bummed because 2 novels I could not wait to read and they turned out bad. I want to finish them to see how the story plays out but every time I start to read them I dread it. I have way too many other novels I am looking forward to reading.

No worries. I know how real life can slam you occasionally. :)
I've read a few I couldn't finish either--which is a rarity for me. I don't know if you've read Real yet (Katy Evans), and if you did and enjoyed it, that's great.
I couldn't stomach the hero. He was a drunk ass and unless some major changes happened later, he was unredeemable in my book. I couldn't read anymore. I also couldn't finish Avoiding Commitment. I don't plan to review them on my site, cause I hate bashing books. It just wasn't my cup of tea. If you feel comfortable in telling me what books you couldn't finish---I'd love to know. That way I won't waste my time. :)

    2. No!! Do not tell me that you did not like Real and could not finish it. Urgh I have it on my wish list and want it bad. He must of been a bad hero that is unredeemable if you did like him. I have been debating Avoiding Commitment but I read some not so good reviews that has kept me away. It is hard with some novels when they have a huge fanbase that have tons of 5 stars because I find my self the minor who does not like the novel. I will like the plot but the writing is bad and can not connect with the characters.

For me it is A Beautiful Lie (Playing with Fire #1) by T.E. Sivic. I want to know what happens to the fiancé but the too many back flashes are driving me insane. As of now I feel like the author is telling me how they feel with all the back flashes. I do like some of them I have read but some I could of done with out and have given up.

My other novel is In Flight (Up In The Air #1) by R.K Lilly. Omg I am having a hard time with the cheesy lines "I'm going to tie you to the bed and take your hymen." and the story dwells on silly stuff like a whole chapter about her watch. I should of read more reviews for it as it seems to be a knock off Fifty Shades. I just feel like authors are trying to hop on the Fifty roller coaster ride still. I do not hate fifty but I do not love it.

Let me know if you read these novels or have them on your TBR. Love to know what you think.

      WOWZA-long ass comment :)
Real warbled the line for me a lot. There were parts that I liked and then I would be reading and go, WTF???Seriously??!! So, it's not all bad, just when it is, it pissed me off. I can't remember the point I stopped reading, but I just got disgusted at how the male character was irredeemable and I didn't like him very much.Another thing that pissed me off is the repeatitive nature of the book. Same shit, said differently. UGH.
With Avoiding Commitment, there was just too much cheating going on for me. Both the male and female character! REPEATEDLY. And I got pissed and disgusted. Stopped reading. Maybe the fact that the readers have been young have something to do to with the high rating, as some young peeps really can be a bit self-centered with their thinking. I am over **ahem** 40, and cheating is just WRONG. It is not a redeemable character trait for me. I didn't like In Flight, lol, either. Stopped reading it cause it was way over cheesy. And I didn't like 50 at all. It had that cheesy factor and HELLO, how the fuck is pulling out your lover's tampon sexy?????!
A Beautiful Lie?? Seen it around, but don't have that one in the TBR.

I'm not saying that I won't read a book with cheating, but when you combine it with cheesy lines and immature characters, you lose me. I'll put you down.

Thanks for commenting back. Loved hearing your opinion about these books.
