Question of the Week:

So today I'm reading the ARC for Beyond Pain by Kit Rocha. It stars the extremely sexy Bren who's a masochist. Don't confuse him for a submissive though, because he's definitely in control in the bedroom. He does like a good deal of nail scratching, biting, and is hornier than a drunk college boy in the girl's dorm on campus after he's done with a good ass kicking. This makes me wonder... do you like reading romances where there is a healthy of dose of sadomasochism and/or masochism? Or are you turned off form a book when things get... painful?

Answer:

Although extreme pain is NOT my thing, I believe there is a thin line between pleasure and pain. And if an author does it just right, he/she can express that rather well. 

Cherise Sinclair and Kallypso Masters are two authors who I think do a phenomenal job in portraying how a Dom can take his/her submissive to that point and do it with emotion fitting to the story.

Question of the Week: When you DNF a book or rate a book two 'stars' or lower, do you post a review for it on your blog? Have you ever emailed the author about it? 

Answer:
Funny you should ask this question. I just recently finished, er...well attempted to finish, a book this past week. And failed. 
I am not a fan of bashing an author for a bad book. In fact, book bashers piss me off. Or author bashers. Whatever you want to call it. There is simply no need to get nasty.
I have posted a few 2 star reviews on my blog-either because I was asked to, or received it via NetGalley. I feel it's important to be honest, without all the mud slinging. 
I will not email an author to let him/her know. That really isn't necessary. 
The great thing about books and reading is that there are so damn many out there and we (readers) have such different "criteria" as to what makes a great read. 
But one thing I will say--if a book doesn't hold my interest, or just sucks really bad, I will put it down. There are too many other books out there waiting for me to read.

Question of the Week: In honor of the July 4th holiday, I'm going to ask you the expected question. Who is the sexiest military man you've panted over in a book?

Answer:  Oh, this is a subject near and dear to my heart--the military hero. I love this genre! Suzanne Brockmann, author of the Troubleshooters series, started me on this journey of gobbling up all the  military romance books I could find. But alas--NO ONE can write a military man like Suz. 

Not. Possible.

So, the sexiest military man I've panted, drooled over, whimpered aloud, and wished were real?????

Sam Starrett.

The cover isn't sexy--but the story in between the cover is just a heapin' dose of awesomesauce to the nth degree. Gone Too Far is a keeper on my shelf and is slightly worn around the edges from all the re-reading I've done from it.

Question of the Week: What's your favorite time period for your fictional fantasy men? Do you drool over a Scottish Highlander in his kilt swinging his... err... claymore? Do you want a bodice ripper to scandalize you before the ton? Maybe a modern day Commando to sweep you off your feet and then tie you up in creative ways? Or perhaps a futuristic space pirate to kidnap you away from Earth and tempt you with all of his unknown alien bedroom secrets? *eyebrow wiggle*

Answer:  This one is easy peasy--I am a huge fan of Contemporary Romance, the present day in which I live. Although I do have a think for other sub-genres (paranormal, fantasy, etc) I tend to read more books in the here and now. I don't read too many historical...with the exception of a few authors that really do it for me. 
But my fictional men are more of the modern day Commando that has a filthy and highly creative mind.

Question of the Week: What's your favorite way to beat the heat? With a light and humorous romance? A book set in the chilly north or maybe a Christmas in July special? Or is hotter better, do you crank up the heat with a sexy romance?

Answer: In my opinion, the hotter the better. With a book at least, lol. Summers here in the south can be sweltering--clothes sticking to you, sweat running down your sides, face flushed with the intense heat--all the while, you're praying for a reprieve. 

Or you step inside and crank up the air. 

The only thing I dislike about summer, is that it makes it harder to read my books in my favorite spot--the front porch. I then tend to go to the back porch, where the sun's not beating down on me. 

The plus side about the summer, is lying on the beach with your headphones on, listening to an audio book. Of course, I feel a little naughty if the book I'm listening to is really sexy, and the people around me have no clue. HAH! Below is the book I had on audio. Preston is one sexy bad boy!

Question of the Week: Who is your current hero? Find an image that represents the sexy hero in the book that you are currently reading and share him with us! 

Answer: Yet another type of question where I have too many choices, lol. 

Hero:  a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

Preston Drake, although young and not your typical hero, is the type of guy that defines both noble qualities. He just does it a little ass-backwards, lol. This book rocked me! Loved it! And I had a hard time coming up with a photo, as Preston is youngish--early 20's.  This is the closest I could come up with.

Answer: I love cliffies! They make me mad as hell, yes. But I love them. I love to feel emotions after reading, and love the tortuous wait. I remember reading Karen Marie Moning--Dreamfever--and OMFG. What a cliffie. I remember throwing the hardback across my living room screaming, "Nooooooooooo!"

Question of the Week: Does it light your libido reading scorching romances where the heroine is (or is undercover as) a sassy stripper?

Answer: I really don't fall one way or the other. For me, it's all about the story and the characters. I don't search specifically for those plot lines, but I will read them. 

Funny that you should ask this question, as I just finished His Southern Temptation by Robin Covington ( Review to come later today), where the heroine did a small one day stint as a stripper. 

However, I can tell you what I would LOVE to see-- a story where the HERO was the stripper. I can recall a really awesome fanfic--The Red Line--where the hero was a stripper. OMFG! Amazing story that really had it all: Drool worthy hero, wounded hero, tragic past for hero, great smexy times, and it made me sob like a baby. 

I would totally buy it if there was a story out there like that. If anyone has come across such a thing---PLEASE let me know what the title/author is, Thank YOU! 

Stripping for a living, in no way, defines you. It is the person inside. I have no right to judge what someone else does for a living. I wish I had the body that could get up on stage and twirl around the pole. That is a confidence that I have never had. But in my little fantasy world, I can shake my money maker and have my hero all worked up. LOL. And I look damn good while doing it.

Question of the Week: What is your favorite romantic trope to read about and which is your least favorite?

Most favorite: 

Friends to lovers. Why? Well, being married for 20 + years I can attest on how important it is to LIKE the person you marry. It's like the backbone to a great relationship. And as far as reading, I love it when the hero is metaphorically slapped upside the head when he realizes the woman he wants and needs in his life has been right there all along. Sigh, Swoon. 

Least Favorite:

Hmm...that's a toughie. If a story is written well and told in a way that engages me and has intriguing characters, then I'll read it. Doesn't matter to me if it lacks a little bit of originality. 

But looking back at the books that I couldn't finish (and there have been a handful lately), it was the one dimensional characters that lacked depth and sympathy that stopped me from continuing--not the plot line. 

So, I guess what I'm saying is I don't really have a least favorite. If you get me turning the pages and devouring your book, then you've done your job! And I am ever so thankful for losing myself in the fictional world you created.

Question of the Week: Have you read an erotic historical romance or an historical erotica? Did you like it? If not, would you want to? Or do you prefer erotica in the present and why? 

Answer:

I'm not sure if I have or not...isn't that sad? I had to look at my Goodreads and I have only tagged roughly 30 books in the historical genre. Of course, I haven't tagged the entire 985 books that I have read in the last few years, sot that is not entirely accurate. I think Sara MacCarty may be categorized as historical erotica, but not sure. She is the author of the Hell's Eight series. I loved it. 
Typically, I don't read historicals. They just don't do it for me. But there are a few authors that I do read in the genre. 
If anyone has any suggestions for some really great erotic historicals, I'm happy to look them up. 
I do prefer my erotica in the present--it's just easier for me to get 'lost' in it, ya know?

Answer:  Oh, I have to limit myself to just three?!!!
**crosses arms over chest and huffs**You are obviously not aware of my fictional man-stable that is overflowing with tons of studly Alpha men.  But I'll try to limit to just three. And not even the top three, cause no way in hell can I pick one over the other. They all have special **qualities** that make them unique in their own way. **waggles eyebrows.

1. Reyes ~ Darynda Jones --Charlie Davidson Series. That man has a butt-load of testosterone and his dark nature makes my legs feel like overcooked noodles...all wiggly and shit. 

2. Jericho Barrons ~ Karen Marie Moning--Fever Series. 
Ultimate Bad Boy who holds nothing back. Love his dirty mouth and that arrogance that oozes from his pores.

Question of the Week: 

Have you noticed a growing trend in erotic romance covers since the popularity of the Fifty Shades trilogy? Publishers and authors are re-vamping their covers, loosing the sexy and adding a hint of intrigue. But as a reader, which do you prefer? The symbolic covers OR the erotic covers? 

Answer:

Yes, I think I have seen more erotica out there than I normally would have, say, a year ago. I remember having to go to a "special" section in the bookstore to find those books. Now, they're everywhere--even places I thought I'd never find them. Oh, say--like Wal-mart. LOL.

As far as covers go, I'd rather have something a bit sexier. I loved the original covers of Lora Leigh's Elite Ops....they were delish. Now...meh...not so much. I'm so glad I have the original covers to stare and drool at and not a bunch of flowers or whatever --that in no way are related to the story.

Question of the Week:

 Do you gravitate to a specific genre or sub-genre

 when you're feeling under the weather? 

I will admit to being a mood reader. If I start a book and it doesn't sing to me right away, I'll put it down and grab another book. But when I'm feeling under the weather? I don't have a particular sub-genre or specific genre I go to--I just want a really good story that keeps my interest. Although I dearly love Darynda Jones's books and anything by JR Ward. And even Suzanne Brockmann--damn, I guess any of these authors' books will do for me at any time. And I know they'll make me feel better!

First off, I like to promote a great read, regardless of whether or not I'm on an author's street team or not. But yes, I am on a few that I love and although I don't get to pimp out very much, I try to tell peeps about them whenever I can.

Question of the Week: Are you planning on attending any book conventions this year? Are you a con newbie or an old pro? 

Me and Suzanne Brockmann

I would definitely say I am not an old pro, but I did start attending conventions two summers ago. It was fmy irst and it was in NYC~ RWA. And it was FANTASTIC!  I met a ton of great authors and got to talk with them. I met my favorite author, Suzanne Brockmann, who I just LURVE and adore. That woman has mad writing skills. And I got to meet one of the sweetest authors out there who just simply has a heart of gold--Darynda Jones. She was genuine, warm, and extremely funny. Not to mention, her writing and her books kicks ass!

I also got to see NYC for the third time and it has grown to be one of my favorite places to visit. 

More importantly, I got to see my BFF for the first time and it was SWEET! CL Parker and I had only communicated via phone and internet for almost two years before we finally came face to face. It was like one of those dream sequence moments, where two people are running towards each other slo-mo in a field of wild flowers, lol. 

My second convention was this past summer (AAD--Authors After Dark) in NOLA~ New Orleans. I got to again take this trip with CL and another bestie, Britta. We had a blast!

Defining moments for this trip was (1) I got to meet two ladies who rock my hoohah! Gayle Donnelly and Robyn Mackenzie. Otherwise known as the author, Donnelly Mackenzie. These two ladies have become very near and dear to me and I am so damn happy that I got the opportunity to meet them. I have never laughed so much and enjoyed so much with all of the fabulous women. 

Not to mention, we had some FUCK-tastic biscuits at this little hole in the wall--Willie's Chicken Shack. OMG. The Best.Biscuits.EVER, people.

(2) I got to meet the fabulous and super-smexy Dakota Cassidy. Have you seen her hair people? It is like sex hair. GORGEOUS.SEXY.WOMAN. And funny as hell.  She writes a very witty and laugh out loud paranormal series that I love to read. 

(3) I GOT A FREAKIN BOOK DEAL! Can't say too much about it write now except that it is still and WIP and I am in edits...speaking of, I better wrap up this post and get back to it. 

This Year:

I will be attending Lori Foster's Reader Get Together in Cincinnati--I used to live there and it will be nice to go back again. Also, I will be hanging out with gal pals CL, Gayle, and Robyn again--I'm in my Happy Place.  

I would love to attend the RWA in Atlanta as well, since it's almost in my back yard, lol. But that is something that will have to be a "we'll see" for now. 

And if for some great and unexpected reason I happen to win the lottery, I'll attend as many conventions as I can...maybe even meet some of my followers here.
