Top Ten Books I'm Looking Forward To In 2012

This past year was the first year that I truly kept up with all the books I have read. I met and passed my goal of 200 books for the year 2011.
Next year, I plan to read the same amount-and participate in several Reading Challenges.

Today's Top Ten list features the books of 2012 and which ones I am eager to buy and read. And there are way more than 10. In fact, if I never even purchase a new book next year (GAH-like THAT will ever happen), I could easily meet my goal of 200 books for next year. Me=Book Addict.

Here are the TOP TEN Books That I'm Looking Forward To In 2012:

1. Lover Reborn ~ JR Ward--March 27, 2012

We finally get Tohr's story.
In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages. The city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Now back in the Brotherhood – and unrecognisable as the vampire leader he once was – Tohrment is physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair. When he begins to see his beloved in his dreams – trapped in a cold, isolating netherworld – Tohr turns to a self-serving fallen angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost.

When he’s told he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed…Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. Against the backdrop of the raging war with the lessers, and with a new clan of vampires vying for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between the buried past, and a very hot, passion-filled future… but can his heart let go and set all of them free?

2.  Third Grave Dead Ahead ~ Darynda Jones--January 31, 2012

Charley Davidson—grim reaper extraordinaire, private investigator . . . meh—is practicing her profession under the influence, caffeine and copious amounts of it, due to an extreme desire to induce insomnia. Every time she closes her eyes, Reyes Farrow, the part-human, part-supermodel son of Satan, is there. Only thing is, he’s a tad peeved. She did bind for all eternity, so it’s hard blame him. But 13 days without a wink is bound to bring out the crazy in a girl. So, when a man hires her to find his wife, Charley accepts the job with one goal in mind: Put the man behind bars, and not the wet kind. She can sense the guilt waft off him and vows to find the woman’s body and prove he’s a murderer.

In the meantime, Reyes is back in prison and none too happy about it . . . so Charley thinks, until she is carjacked by the dark-haired rake, who swears the very man he went to prison for killing is not only alive, but close by. And he wants Charley to find him.

While a visit to her old friend Rocket sheds no light on Reyes’s situation, Charley finds out the man’s wife is still alive and time is running out. Finding her before she dies would be a miracle, but she has to try. Together with the help of a fashion-impaired receptionist named Cookie, Charley sets out to bring the bad guys to justice. She just hopes Reyes is not one of them. And that she’s not hallucinating from her self-induced bout with insomnia.

3.  Double Time ~ Olivia Cunning -November 1, 2012 (no cover love)

6.  Rapture ~ JR Ward--Fallen Angels Book 4--Expected publication ?2012 (no cover love)

Alas, I have no info on this book--but I am eager to read it and to see just who the hell that vamp was at the end of book 3!

7.  Whispers In The Dark ~ Maya Banks--KGI Book 4--January 7, 2012

Now he rushes to save her before it's too late

Shea has been on the run from people who will stop at nothing to exploit her unique abilities. She never wanted to drag Nathan, who'd already suffered so much, into danger, but she doesn't have a choice so she reaches out to him for help. A DEADLY FORCE DWELLS WITHIN HER

But Lothaire is no savior, as he himself plans to sacrifice Ellie in one month’s time. And yet the vampire seems to ache for her touch, showering her with wealth and sexual pleasure. In a bid to save her soul, Ellie surrenders her body to the wicked vampire, while vowing to protect her heart.

CENTURIES OF COLD INDIFFERENCE SHATTERED

9.  Darker After Midnight ~ Lara Adrian--Midnight Breed Book 10-January 24, 2012

In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.

At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase’s path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, a beautiful witness who identifies him at the scene of a mission gone terribly wrong, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems.

Pulled into a vortex of intrigue and danger she can neither resist nor understand, Tavia is uncertain whom to trust. And while everything sane and logical warns her against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that the handsome, deeply haunted male stirs something primal and ravenous within her. But even as she surrenders to her cravings, nothing can prepare her for the shattering truth of who—and what—she truly is.

As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Dragos and his Minions unleashing a hell on Earth like nothing ever seen before, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out and the streets running red with the blood of innocent lives, both Breed and human, together Chase and Tavia must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all—or die trying.

10.  Once Burned ~ Jeaniene Frost--Night Prince Book 1-June 26, 2012 (no cover love)

This is Vlad's story-A secondary Character that we saw off and on in the Night Huntress Series--and yes, it's THAT Vlad.

Top Ten Book Characters in 2011

WOW!  Today's Top Ten is a toughie!

I should have started earlier with this post, because I think it is gonna be one that kicks my ass.
But, as usual, I procrastinated--to sleep. The holidays have been brutal to my schedule.

I've decided to base today's Top Ten on the women of fiction-The Kick-Ass Heroines that I wish I could be.

The romance genre is filled with hot lovin' ALPHA males--see yesterday's blog. But it takes a strong woman to love these men. They don't try to control them, tame them, or even pacify them. They are fierce, strong, and will defy them at every turn.

Here is a list of my TOP TEN Kick Ass Heroines. I tried to narrow it down to books that only came out in 2011...and because of that a LOT of great ones were left out...So I have a Honorable Mentions category below.

1. Cat Crawfield ~ Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost

Although, this book was my least favorite of the series-she still can kick ass and I LURVE her mad fighting skills.

2. Charley Davidson ~ Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones

What draws me in about this character is her snarky sense of humor. She makes me laugh out loud and has the baddest ass T shirt slogans on the planet.

3. Limos ~ Lords of Deliverence Series by Larissa Ione--Book 2 Immortal Rider

A Horseman of the Apolcolypse--Famine--who can kick your ass and was at one time the promised bride of Satan himself.

4. Regin the Radiant~ Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole Book 11 Dreams of a Dark Warrior

She takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' in this book. A definite match for Declan Cash/Aidan the Fierce.

5. Merit ~ Chicagolands Vampires Series by Chloe Neill Book 5 Drink Deep

She survives even after the crushing death of Ethan, and comes through fighting on the other side. Plus her wardrobe is pretty Awesome, too.

6. Sloane Giddeon ~ Edge Seies by Shannon K. Butcher Book 1 Living on the Edge

This is not a paranormal heroine-but she doesn't have to be. I would hate to come across her in a dark alley at night. She doens't wait for the hero to rescue her--NOPE...she comes out guns blazin' and kicks ass without any special powers.

7. Stephanie Plum ~ Janet Evanovich

Okay, so mostly the perps she picks up as a Bounty Hunter end up kicking Stephanie's ass (HAH), but she always comes back the next day. And the fact that she has Joe and Ranger as her two love interest?  Yeah, I so want to be her and have THAT problem.

8. MacKayla Lane  ~ Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning - Shadowfever

She never stops fighting-no matter how shitty the odds. And yeah--she has Barrons.

9. Jolie Wilkins ~ H.P. Mallory

Jolie DIES peeps--comes back and she has powerful who-do voo-do magic to fight the baddies (hah).  And she loves reading the BDB books.

10. Puck ~ The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

She fights the system--racing in a brutal horse race that could mean her death. The only girl ever in history--and comes out the victor. That's bad ass in my book.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
1. Katniss Everdeen The Hunger Games Trilogy
2. Rose Hathaway The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
3. Riley Poe (Dark Ink Chronicles) by Elle Jasper

Top Ten Book Boyfriends of 2011

I love to read because I love to put myself in the wonderful, vibrant worlds that the author create. I guess that's why I seem to gravitate to paranormal more so than any other genre. But, if the author does his or her job, I will read almost anything.

I get excited when a writer creates such vivid three-dimensional characters-so vivid, that they seem "REAL".
And when an author creates a world that has me wanting to pack my bags and move there in the series? Well, that's just the icing on the cake.

No one does that better than the WARDen in my world., er...her world...ahem...whatever. I want to move to Caldwell, NY--

Ah...I seemed to have gotten a little side tracked.
We were supposed to be talking about Favorite Fictional Boyfriends, right?  I heard the words and my brain immediately went to the BDB.
I'll take them all please and thankyouverymuch. I tend to be a greedy bitch, my bad.

So I'll start with...

1. Vishous ~Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Warden
The name alone makes mah hoohah perk up and wave the white flag of surrender. He is one of the baddest bad-ass fictional characters-NOTE--I said one of....there are just so many to choose from. And I CANNOT pick a top one. It's just impossible. So these are in NO WAY in any type of order.

I have seen tens of thousands, okay maybe not that many--but a lot--of pictures that fans have made. And I'm sorry...none of them do V justice to the vision I have of him nekked..er...in my head. But the cover of the book is pretty damn close---

And I just found this one surfing the net...and GAH--it's a really great interpretation, too.  **SHIVERS**
V is by no means touchy-feely. He's hard, abrupt, gives the cut direct, and loves to 'play' in his dungeoun of toys-please take me there.
"When I want you to beg, I'll tell you."

2.Bones ~ Night Huntress Series by Jeanine Frost
I hear his voice in my head and he says very naughty things to me. And what he can do with his fangs to your girly bits is just so damn HAWT-it puts me in my happy place just thinking about it. But he slays me with the romanctic things he says--

"Kitten your hands are heaven and your eyes are my home."

3.  Acheron ~ Dark Hunters Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Ash's story is pure torture to read. I cried, sobbed, and have re-read it. But it's painful-the torture he survived will rip you to shreds. His silver swirling eyes, shit-kickers, rock T's, his ever changing hair and Simi tatt are down right sexy. He has strength and honor and his vulnerabilities will tug at your heart strings. There are many Ash-isms that I love, but my fave is "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
And I couldn't find a decent fan pic of him, so I'll just post a pic of his tatt.

4.  Sam Starrett ~ Troubleshooters Series by Suzanne Brockmann
Three words--BAD ASS SEAL.  Sam is a Navy SEAL that we meet and get to follow in several of Suzanne's books. He first appears as a jerk--He's tall, Texan, and loves peanut M&M's. Oh....and chocolate syrup.

...Oh, he liked the sound of that. He liked the way she was looking at the syrup, looking at him. His body was responding enthusiastically, even though it was still just a little too soon. But give him fifteen more minutes with Alyssa Locke and a bottle of chocolate syrup...Oh, baby, he'd be ready for anything.

She opened the top, squeezed some of the syrup onto one finger.

He took her hand, looked directly into her sea green eyes, and slowly licked her finger clean.

Alyssa shivered.

And Sam knew that no matter how much he'd loved chocolate in the past, from now on, it was going to hold an even more special place in his heart.

As a reader you get to see his character grow and just how huge his heart is. The bond he has with Jules is heart-warming. And the things that fly out of his mouth are just so damn funny.
"Yeah, I was just practicing being an asshole.  It takes hard work and constant dedication to my craft to excel the way I do..."
5.  Nathan Malone from Elite Ops Series by Lora Leigh (Wild Card-Book One)
Nathan is another tortured hero who fights his inner demons-hides his identity-and watches over his wife, Bella, to protect her. And in order to do that---he must remain "dead".
Bella, a widow, is fighting the growing attraction to the man working as a mechanic in her late husband's garage. He seems so damn familair....

6..  James 'Dawg' Mackay ~ Nauti Boy Series by Lora Leigh (Nauti Nights)
Dawg is dirty---a very, very, dirty boy--and me lickey...er likey. LOL.
Did I mention he rides a motorcycle and he likes it dirty?

7.  Jace Seymore ~ Sinners on Tour Series by Olivia Cunning
He may be the shy, quiet one out of the loud, obnoxious, and partying boys of The Sinners--but don't let that fool you. It's always those quiet ones that you need to look out for. And did I mention? He's into kink. Yep, I'm sold.

8.  Cullen ~Master of the Shadowlands Series (Lean On Me) by Cherise Sinclair
Two words---Master.Cullen.
Yes, sir.
I'm starting to see a theme here, lol.

9. Reyes ~ Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones
Satan's son--he HAS to be sinfully delish, no?

10. Jericho Barrons ~ The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning
When I think of Barrons, I think DARK, Delicious, and DARK...he and Mac verbally fuck each other for months--and the sexual tension is HIGH in these books. And when Mac is fighting the lust after the 3rd book? Barrons is such a gentleman, lol.....Mac stays in his bed for days. Me=Jealous.

Who are your Top Ten MEN?

Top Ten Favorite Book Covers of 2011

I must admit, I am a cover HOOR. (And if you scan to the pics below, you'll notice I'm a fan of tatts, 6-packs, and sculpted hawt bods)

If I see a cover that makes me cringe, I typically don't pick it up. If the cover makes mah girly bits shiver, it's a given that I will pick it up and read the blurb on the back.

The first thing we see is what draws our attention, right? A picture is worth a thousand words, and blah, blah, blah...

But, honestly--it's what in between the pages that makes me come back, especially with a new author. One friend defines these types of books as "Hot With Plot", and I totally agree.

Today's Top Ten focuses on book covers--and since I read many different genres, I decided to split it up into 2 different categories:  Young Adult and Adult.

Here are my Top 10 picks for the year 2011 in Adult Romance:

1.  Hearts In Darkness ~ Laura Kaye (READ)

I swear I bought this only because of the tatts--and rated it a 5 Star read on my blog. Awesome novella.

2.  Hidden Away  ~ Maya Banks (READ)

He has a very nice, er...gun. And the sweat look totally works for him.

3.  Rock Hard ~ Olivia Cunning (READ)

Jeans and sans shirt? YUMMY-The title is a very apt description, no?

4.  Blood Rights ~ Kristen Painter (READ)

Shocker, no nekked man...but my eyes were immediately captured by this original cover.

5.  Changing The Game ~ Jaci Burton (READ)

Two words for you ladies--Jed Hill.

6.  Drink Deep ~ Chloe Neill (READ)

This is an example of how I love my heroines--KICK ASS!

7.  Second Grave On The Left ~ Darynda Jones (READ)

I swear, its the wardrobe--Charley Davidson shops at DEMONS R US--Kewl.

8.  Devil Without A Cause ~ Terri Garey (READ)

Again, jeans sans shirt--and a kick-ass leather duster **shivers**

9.  Belong To Me ~ Shayla Black  (READ)

Love the pose, the color and lighting---and its damn sexy.

10. Mesmerized ~ Lauren Dane (TBR pile)

UNGH--my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth and I forgot how to speak when I saw this--Cammies-ripped wife beater, sliver of muscled abs playing peek-a-boo with my uterus...GAH!

What were some of your fave book covers of 2011?

I will post my fave Top 10 Young Adult book covers later on today.
