Book Review

Whenever I am looking for a funny, entertaining read that will put a smile on my face, Molly Harper and her naked werewolves are a great choice.  

I love the quirky characters found in the wilds of Alaska--it made me want to grab a cup of cocoa, my heated blanket, and snuggle down for a bit. 

Anna Moder is living a lie. She has escaped from a violent husband who isolated her from her friends and family. Once a successful doctor, she now clerks it at a small, local grocery store. Always looking over her shoulder and never staying the same place for too long, her dream of ever having a normal life is just that. A dream.

But one night changes everything. While leaving work, she hears two men arguing. A gunshot and car explosion later, Anna finds herself on the run with...a werewolf.

Caleb Graham is the sexy bounty hunter that likes to crank up the country music on the radio, chew on exotic flavors of beef jerky, looks delish in a pair of jeans...and is a werewolf. Although Anna is aware of who and what he is, she keeps this information to herself and pretends not to know. A lie of omission.

Caleb is attracted to the snarky cutie he finds in his bed after being shot and out of it. There is a definite spark of lust brewing between them. And when Anna is left with no choice but to team up with Caleb as he drives across Alaska, the sexual frustration reaches a climax...er, boiling point.

But Caleb has his own secret. And once it's revealed, it could destory any budding relationship the two have developed while on the run.  

How To Run With A Naked Werewolf is a joyful and entertaining read with enough heat to keep you warm on those long, winter nights.

Book Review

Callie Brown is a necromancer who uses her gift to help the police when a body is discovered dead...and missing her heart. There are no gaping chest wound on the victim. With her ability to see the dead's last few minutes, Callie discovers a mysterious and powerful stranger waiting for her. Someone who is very aware just exactly who and what Callie is. 

Sergeant Duncan O'Connor isn't like a lot of humans who want nothing to do with high bloods. And he has had a growing attraction for the stunning necromancer, Callie Brown. When Duncan and Callie are in Valhalla, he makes his intentions known. 

Born In Blood has a slow build-up as there are a lot of characters, and explanations given to this unique paranormal world. With all the back-story and little action in the beginning, the story lagged a bit for me. And I wasn't all that crazy for Duncan's he-man tactics in the beginning. But that doesn't deter from the fact that Ivy HAS created an interesting beginning to a new series...it just wasn't my cup of tea. 

If you like a plethora of paranormal creatures packed in one story with interesting characters and don't mind a slower pace, Born In Blood is an adventure worth reading.

Book Review

The story starts out with a Ouija board. And a strange message. 

Jenny has always been a bit different. A little odd. She wears gloves on her hands, which doesn't exactly scream, "I'm normal." But one night at a party-- a party Jenny really didn't want to be at--a Ouija board opens up a door to the past and Jenny starts to remember things.  Things that shouldn't be possible.

Open your soul and remember. 

Jenny wears the gloves to protect herself from visions. Sometimes, she would touch a person and be transported to another place--and this strange ability has caused her to lead a somewhat sheltered life.
She lives with her father, and her mother was killed in an accident eleven years ago. The only time she truly feels at peace is when she paints. 

But now a mysterious boy has appeared in her dreams...and in her paintings. Hovering in the shadows. 


Amanda Gray has created an intriguing tale filled with a rich history, reincarnation, and the magical possibility to right a tragic wrong. Strong secondary characters play an important role in helping Jenny and Nikolai reunite, if only just briefly, and a cliffhanger has the reader wanting this story to continue. 

I was truly entertained with Endless and hope to see more from this author.

Book Review

Historical romance is not usually the genre I seek out when looking for a good read. But author, Kristen Callihan is someone not to be missed. 

Kristen's writing in her Darkest London series puts you in 1800s England, along the dark, seedy streets of London...or Ireland, as is the setting for her novella, Entwined.

Eamon Evernight is the unlikely hero of Entwined. He is the second son, the outcast, the "redheaded devil's child. Shy around women and prefers to spend his time alone in his smithy. But when he receives the news that his eldest brother, Aidan, is betrothed to the mysterious Lady Luella Moran, the loyal Eamon steps in to write a letter posing as Aidan. It appears that Lady Luellen does not want the betrothal to take place, considering it a "archaic and glorified stud service". But although Aidan is not looking forward to the arrangement, he wants the marriage to take place. As he cannot read or write, he convinces his brother, Eamon to pen a letter to help persuade Lady Luella to keep to the terms of the contract set between their fathers.

What follows is an assemblage of letters spanning the next four years. Four years where both Eamon and Luella fall in love over time, spilling out their hearts onto paper, minus two secrets. Eamon is not the man he is pretending to be...but what secret is Luella hiding that could send her out in the cold, destitute and alone? 

I loved the telling of Eamon and Lu's love story. It grew through their shared letters, slowly, and with witty postscripts.  And when they finally meet face to face, there is a hint of something familiar that Luella senses in Eamon.  

And when Aidan runs off to the Americas, leaving her a jilted almost-bride, Eamon steps in his brother's place...again. 

But can the secrets these two new lovers are hiding destroy their fragile beginning? 

 A beautifully told love story with poignant scenes that melt the heart.

“I just want you to enjoy the pies in life, Perry,” he shot in.

“That’s all.”

“I enjoy...pies,” I managed to say. I wasn’t about to charm him with my wit, that’s for sure.

“Pies are a metaphor,” he said quickly. He exhaled. Then slammed his fist down on the table. The pie plate jumped. I jumped. I’m pretty sure the twins in the other room jumped.

“All right, enough lollygagging,” he barked. “Let’s have a concrete plan of action for tonight. As much I love to fly by the seat of my pants and shit everywhere, I don’t think we can afford to do that this time. Maybe next time. Sound good?”

“Oh God, whatever,” I uttered under my breath.

“That’s the spirit,” he mused and started scribbling furiously on the paper. I soon realized he was drawing a detailed layout of the lighthouse. “Now there were four levels, right?”

Book Review 

I love to find a book that isn't like all the rest out there in the world of fiction. And Wicked As They Come is about as different as it gets.  I found it strange, yet very provocative. I couldn't put it down. 

Tish Everett is a likable heroine who has just come out of a bad relationship. Her ex was very controlling--to the point where Tish swears she will never be under a man's control ever again. 

When one of Tish's patient's dies, her estate is put up for sale and Tish attends -- and finds an odd locket that calls to her. Inside the locket is a picture of a man; one that is dark, sexy, and seems to be daring her with a knowing look. Not meaning to, she 'steals' it, and that night finds herself transported to a different world. 

Naked. 

And the man from the locket is waiting for her. Has been waiting for her. 

Sang is unlike any world I have read in fiction--unique, quirky, and appealing. With pink clouds that you can almost touch, Bludbunnies that want to suck you dry, and a traveling circus guarded by a cute clockwork monkey. 

Criminy Stain is a very different hero. He's a Bludman who has paid for a love spell to find the one woman who will be his match in every way. And that woman is Tish. 

Although Tish fights the attraction, she is pulled to this strange man. And the bizarre world that is known as Sang charms Tish as well. But how can she stay in this strange place, when she is needed in her own world? Can she choose desire over her responsibilities back home? 

If that weren't enough to confuse a girl, Tish discovers she isn't the only human from her world making a life in Sang. And someone in power wants Tish and the locket she wears. 

And will do anything to get it. Even if it means her death.

Book Review 

I have been meaning to get my hands on another of Laurie London's books. And I am glad that I picked up the first of her newest series. It is novella lenght and was just the right amount to help introduce this unique story of two very unique worlds. 

Neyla Trhiorn is a reluctant soldier for the Pacifican Army. She has a Talent--where she can throw out a shield of protection. This Talent of hers was accidentally discovered after she survived a horrific train wreck. She and a few of the others around her survived while hundreds perished.  

And now she is on a mission with her team to help discover a hidden portal where supposed barbarians cross over and are responsible for killing thousands in her world. They are also the ones responsible for bombing the train that led to Neyla's accident.

Rickert is is from Cascadia--another world that is more primitive than those named Pacificans--and is one of many men sent to make sure the portal into their world remains hidden. Years ago, Pacificans entered their world, killing people from Rickert's village and taking what did not belong to them. He is out to make those that killed his people and his sister suffer. 

During their mission, one maniacal soldier tries to kill Neyla--his own teammate-- and ends up on the wrong end of the knife. Rickert, who has been watching the private showdown, steps in when things turn ugly and saves Neyla from certain death.

And when Rickert touches Neyla, strange and foggy images of what seems to be an impossible future appear. Rickert is stunned to note the vision is of he and this stranger making love. 

Not sure what this vision means, but knowing that he must take Neyla back with him through the portal. To his world. He must find out the truth behind these erotic, yet disturbing images. 

What follows is a great telling how two people from different worlds come together and slowly learn things about the other--things that they thought once as fact turn out to be something else. Who exactly is the enemy? The Cascadians? The Pacificans? 

And it all comes to a shocking climax when deeper secrets are revealed about Neyla's origins...

A great beginning to what is sure to be a great series.

Holy Shitcakes!

I love it when you are sucked into a book--another world, basically--and you don't want to emerge from your kindle in order to go to bed. To eat. To feed your kids. 

Kresly Cole has done it again. Her unique Arcana Chronicles kicks ass. 

It's definitely a book to be read in order, as the world can be a tad confusing. There are so many layers, players, and twists and turns, you practically have to read it twice (Ahem, I plan on doing just that myself) so as to not miss any important details. 

Endless Knight starts off where The Poison Princess leaves off--on a bloody battlefield. Jack has just witnessed Evie turn into the Empress and take another life. Creatures called Bagmen are gaining on Finn, Matthew, Evie, Selena and Jack. With time running out, the small group form an alliance, their solitary goal to kill Death. 

Before he kills them.

Expect to sit on the edge of your seat during high-adrenaline action scenes, so tense you're afraid to blink your eyes, least you miss something.

Expect your toes to curl as Jack seduces me...er, the reader...with his sexy Cajun accent and expressions:

"Doan you dare talk like that, bebe." He gripped my nape, a move that was at once protective and possessive. "I'm not goan to let anything happen to you, no."  

"Mercy me, Evie."

"Up you go, bebe." 

"I'm all in, peekon." 

Expect to fall for Finn's charms, as his sense of humor takes away some of the building tension and provides some much needed comic relief:

"So three Bagmen and a slaver go into a bar..."

"You guys humming my balls, right?" 

"Checking perimeters? Is that what the Louisiana kids are calling it these days? Hey, Lark, can I check your perimeter?"  

And expect to confused as hell. I seriously thought I could never be swayed to feel sympathy for Death. But Cole has made me see Death in a totally different light. So who the hell do I root for now?
