Book Blurb

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.

Reality is much worse:

A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.

I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:

J.S.

Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:

Resist and die.

Or submit, and sign my life away.

Author Info

I’m Scarlett Edwards. I wrote my first book as a college sophomore. After six months of edits, it made its debut as Yours to Savor.

That was at the start of 2013. I’ve written more books since then. You can find them all here.

It’s funny how quickly life changes. I used to think I’d need a degree to get a “Real Job.” Then I wrote a few books, they got somewhat popular, and now I’m living the life as a full-time romance author.

Thanks to all my readers for making my dreams come true!

Book Excerpt

“Lilly.”

Oh God. It’s him. There’s no mistaking that rich, masculine treble.

What’s he doing down here?

“M-Mr. Stonehart,” I stutter, turning. I curse my inability to hide my surprise. He totally caught me off-guard. I have to look up to meet his eyes. Then up some more.

The face that I find is so striking it should belong to a Greek god.

He’s younger than I expected. Late thirties, maybe early forties.

That means he started his company when he was younger than me!

Dark scruff lines his angular cheeks. His jet-black hair is styled in long, natural waves. My fingers itch to run through it.

Totally inappropriate.

He has a prominent nose that might be too big on a less imposing man, but on him, it’s perfect.

In short, he’s a package of the purest masculinity I’ve ever seen.

And then there are his eyes. Oh my God. His eyes. They pierce into me like honing missiles. They are the deepest black I have ever seen. They would be frightening if they weren’t so beautiful. When the light reflects a certain way, you catch a glimpse of the purple underneath.

They are like midnight sapphires. His eyes reveal a cunning intellect. Those eyes do not miss a thing.
Add all that to his towering height, his wide shoulders, his confident-yet-at-ease posture… and Stonehart cuts an intimidating figure.

My gaze darts to his left hand before I can stop it. No ring. He’s unmarried.

He looks down at me, expectantly. His eyes narrow ever so slightly, and I feel like I’m being dissected, measured up, and tucked away in some small corner of his brain. I imagine this is what a gemstone feels like under the magnifying class of the most critical appraiser.

Stonehart clears his throat. I come to with a start, realizing I haven’t said anything in ages. I open my mouth, but the capacity for speech seems like a foreign concept to my brain. “I—”

Somebody bumps into me from behind. I stagger forward. I’m not used to these shoes, so my heel steps the wrong way. My ankle twists under me, and I start to fall.

I don’t fall far. The hand still on my elbow tightens, and Stonehart pulls me into him.

I plaster myself onto the solid steel wall the man has for a body. I catch a scent of his cologne. It’s a deep, musky smell with a hint of charred spruce that is all male. It scrambles my thoughts even more.

“Sorry!” a rushed voice calls out. From the corner of my eye, I see the postman giving a hurried, apologetic wave.

Although the sequence lasts less than a second, it feels like an eternity. Pressed up against him like that, I don’t want to move. I know that I couldn’t have made a worse first impression.

Stonehart eases me off him with a firm yet gentle grip. Our eyes meet. I flush the most vibrant red. His fingers graze my forehead as he brushes a lock of hair out of my face.

Any tenderness I may have imagined vanishes when Stonehart takes out his cell. He long dials a key and growls an order. “Steven. See the delivery boy leaving right now? Have his building pass revoked.”

I gape. Stonehart keeps speaking. “Wait. I thought of one better. Bar his company from accessing the building.” There’s a pause. “For how long? Indefinitely. FedEx can talk to me when they have an improved employee selection program in place.”

The phone call gives me just enough time to compose myself. My heart’s still beating out of my chest. But nobody has to know that.

I speak without thinking. “You’re going to restrict the entire company from serving this building because of that?”

Stonehart humors me with an answer. “A company’s employees are its most important asset. Their behavior reflects the organization as a whole. If FedEx decided that clown is good enough for them, it tells me they’re sloppy. I do not do business with sloppy organizations.”

“What about the other tenants in the building?” I ask. “Won’t that piss them off?”

When I hear myself and realize how improper my question is, my cheeks flame red again.

Stonehart’s eyes darken, as if he cannot believe I asked that question. I open my mouth to apologize for my imprudence, hating the way my professional skills have evaporated into thin air. I’m cut off by a short, barked laugh.

“Miss Ryder.” He sounds amused. “I believe that is the most direct and honest question anybody has dared ask me in weeks.” He takes my elbow again and leads me to the elevators. I have to take two quick steps to match one of his long strides.

“Yes,” he continues. “They will be ‘pissed off.’ But the perk of owning a building—” he hits the elevator call button, “—is that you get to make executive decisions.” He gives me an unreadable glance as the doors open. “That is, at the risk of being questioned by inexperienced interns.”

If that isn’t a loaded remark, I don’t know what is. I flush scarlet red for the third time since I’ve met him. I’ve never had a man throw me so off balance.

The elevator is packed, for which I’m infinitely thankful. The trip up will give me some time to properlycompose myself.

Gratitude turns to panic when the crowd files out, meek as mice, when Stonehart steps in. None of the people waiting in the lobby follow us.

The doors close. I’m alone in here with him. My heart’s beating as fast as a hummingbird’s wings.
He catches me staring. “Impressed?” he asks.

“They know you,” I manage.

His dark eyes flash with amusement. “Astute.”

EXCERPT:

Siobhan entered the large suite and glanced around. She’d used every ounce of strength she possessed to walk through the front doors of the hotel and into the dining room. But with Bobby standing behind her, the fine hairs on the back of her neck that had irritated her all evening, eased.
She strode through the room, flipping on lights, checking the bathroom. When she slid the shower curtain back, she stopped herself. What the hell am I doing?
Turning, she caught her reflection in the mirror, the scar on her temple a permanent reminder of everything she’d lost. The sniper had taken so much from her. But did that mean she had to lose her future, too?
By talking her into contacting Madame Eve, her friends had given her a second chance at getting some semblance of control again. And what am I doing? Looking over my shoulder, watching the balcony for shooters, and checking the bathtub for the damn bogeyman while a hot-blooded, gorgeous man is waiting in the bedroom.
And damn it, she wanted to quit hiding in the shadows. If she could survive that day six months ago, then she was damn well done cowering in fear. Hadn’t the bastard taken enough from her? In the past, she’d never shied away from her sexual side. She’d embraced it.
The past six months had been damn lonely. Time to take control again. Starting with the sexy Bobby Martin.
She turned to leave the bathroom and came smack up against a hard male body. He reached out to steady her as she stumbled.
“You okay?”
She pressed her palms on his chest in an attempt to recover her equilibrium—and what a chest. All hard, sculpted muscle. “Uh, yeah, I was just––”
“Looking for the bad guy?” He chuckled.
Heat rushed up her neck and claimed her face. “That obvious, huh?”
Taking her hands in his, he led her into the bedroom. “It’s what I do. If I can’t recognize someone clearing a room, I have no business in Special Ops.”
He tugged her against him, and she had to stop herself from swooning. The men she used to date were nothing close to Bobby. Sure, they’d been fit, but not like this man. He radiated strength and unadulterated male. Something that couldn’t be bottled if you tried. Pure down-and-dirty sex—she tilted her head and eyed him—yet something more.
He gave the impression he actually cared. After listening to her story downstairs, he’d understood immediately how uncomfortable she’d been, sitting in the open dining room, and had gotten her the heck out of there.
She could get used to a man like him. Except tonight would be a one-night stand—something she intended to take full advantage of. Slipping her hands under his shirt, she let her fingers glide up the rock hard abs and sculpted chest until her fingers brushed over his nipples.
His grip tightened on her arms, and his gaze darkened with lust. “Damn.”
A thrill shot through her at the reaction she’d produced, and as she stared up at him, desire coiled low in her body.
“Look, I’m not gonna lie to you.” He loosened his hold on her while he perused her face, settling on her mouth. “I wasn’t sure about this one-night thing to start with, but after seeing you…well, I can definitely follow through. No problem.” He shifted his attention to her eyes, the naked heat swirling in his baby blues causing her breath to catch. “But after what all you told me, I want you to know I get it. We can play this thing any way you want. Fast. Slow. Or I can just hold you.” He trailed his fingers up and down her arms, sending delicious tingles along her skin. “Though I’ll admit, that’s not my first choice.”
She stared at him. God, he was such a gentleman. Without hesitating, she lifted onto her toes, wrapped her arms around his neck, crushed her mouth against his, and…holy crap, what a kiss! Her pulse jumped, her head spun. A fire sparked deep inside her, and her breath caught at the passion winding through her. She didn’t know what she’d been expecting exactly, but not anything like this.
Before she melted into a puddle at his feet, she broke the kiss and gazed up at him. “Does that answer your question?”
A sexy grin curved his lips. “Yes, ma’am.”

BOOK REVIEW ~ PAINTED FACES BY L.H. COSWAY

Title: Painted Faces
Author: L.H. Cosway
Release Date: December 16, 2012

Come forth with an open mind, for an unconventional tale of love..

Dublin native Freda Wilson considers herself to be an acquired taste. She has a habit of making offensive jokes and speaking her mind too often. She doesn't have the best track record with first impressions, which is why she gets a surprise when her new neighbour Nicholas takes a shine to her.

Nicholas is darkly handsome, funny and magnetic, and Freda feels like her black and white existence is plunged into a rainbow of colour when she's around him. When he walks into a room he lights it up, with his quick wit and charisma. He is a travelling cabaret performer, but Freda doesn't know exactly what that entails until the curtains pull back on his opening night.

She is gob-smacked and entirely intrigued to see him take to the stage in drag. Later on, Nicholas asks her if she would like to become his show assistant. Excited by the idea, she jumps at the chance. Soon she finds herself immersed in a world of wigs, make-up and high heels, surrounded by pretty men and the temptation of falling for her incredibly beautiful employer.

In this story of passion and sexual discovery, Nicholas and Freda will contend with jealousy, emotional highs and lows, and the kind of love that only comes around once in a lifetime.

Okay, first off--I must say this. I typically like my men to be very...manly. Alpha. And a little dominant. Scruffy, rough, muscled. A lean, mean, kick-ass fighting machine.

I peruse blog sites and Goodreads frequently and have seen the reviews for L.H. Cosway's Painted Faces---mainly 4-5 star reviews and read the blurb for the book.

Drag Queen Hero.

Um....no.  Moving on.

But when my good friend texts me (Hey Francesca!) and says "You gotta read this!"....Well, Francesca hardly ever steers me wrong. I mean, this woman rec'd Reaper's Property to me and that book rocked my hoohah and had me dreaming of bad-ass biker dudes for days!

So, I bought the damn thing.

HOLY.SHIT.

I can honestly say that I am shocked at how much I loved this book--and Nicholas was just delicious. I wanted to lick him like a lollipop and down him with a shot of Patron.

I will go out on a limb here and say this book is not for everyone. It will either grab you by the ovaries or make you stop in your tracks and say, "No, thanks, I'll pass". But for me, this book not only grabbed me--it shook the hell out of me and I didn't want to stop reading until the last page. And then I was like, "I want more!"

I am amazed at how LH. took Nicholas and made him in one word-SEXY.

Here is a man who puts on women's dresses, panties, make-up--the works--and parades around the stage singing songs from Broadway musicals and struts "her" stuff like no body's biz. When he dons on his Vivica Blue persona, he is woman, hear him roar.

But let's back up a bit--

As a child, Nicholas had no one to turn to for love and understanding. His father was a harsh, bitter man after his wife's death. And Nicholas never got to know the woman who gave birth to him. All that was left were photographs, videos, and her clothes...stepping into his mother's clothes was the only way to bring him close to the mother he never really knew. He was starved for attention.

Nicholas knew he was different--alone, isolated, he was made fun of for his desire to hang out with the girls rather than the boys at his school. He was teased, beaten, and then...his world changed forever when he became a teen.

Now your first thought is probably--this dude is mental. It does sound a bit...strange. Even I can see that. But Cosway worked it, baby. I was intrigued immediately and wanted to see what happened next.

Fast forward a few years...

Nicholas has moved to Dublin and is starting a job at the Garden Patch. He is to be the featured star--a new beginning for him after many lows in his not-so-normal life.

Enter Freda Walker, Nicholas's new neighbor.

Freda, aka Fred bakes cupcakes, works at a charity store, and has felt different her whole life. But she is happy with who she is, comfortable in her own skin. So what if she's not a size six, tall with  legs up to her chin, and  to-die-for gorgeous. As far as heroines go, Fred wowed me with her spunkiness, quick wit, and take-no-shit attitude. I adored her.

When Freda and Nicholas meet, there is an instant sizzle, a palpable chemistry connection, and Freda does everything in her power to keep the sexy new neighbor at a more comfortable distance. She wants more than just a quickie--so not her style. Especially when she finds out just what kind of player Nicholas has been in the past.

But when Nicholas hires her as his assistant, the two grow closer. They become friends--hanging out together and learning about each other.

And unresolved sexual tension follows them wherever they go...These two fit perfectly together, bringing out the best, while accepting their worst.

A fast-paced, highly entertaining read that will make you see drag queens in a totally different light.

Fave moments:

I say, digging in the old scree when in fact I know well that Anny will fuck a door knob with enough alcohol in her system.

We all paint on a face to show the world.

"Delicate my arse. You can suck a dick, but you can't take the idea of a hairless vagina."

I like to be a man in the bedroom, but a woman on the stage.

"Some of them make you feel satisfied, others make you feel high, most just make you feel used or dirty, but you Fred, you make me feel cleansed."

"I want to ruin you Freda, in the best way possible."

Good lawd--I am reading one the most sexiest, exciting, and unique reads right now. I cannot put the bitch down. LURVE it!  And it scares me a little just how much Nicholas turns me on...

"We've been dancing around each other for two weeks. I can't take it much longer," he sinks another finger into me, moving rhythmically in and out. "God you're so tight and soft Fred, I want to lick you all over."
"You're scandalizing me Viv,"  I manage to breathe with a smirk. He smirks right back at me. "I told you I like to corrupt, and you are the perfect candidate with those innocent fucking eyes of yours."He watches me as I writhe against him. "What will it take for you to scream my name? Do you need my cock inside you for that?"

BOOK/AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT ~ JOANNE KENRICK -- BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY

Title: Bittersweet Symphony
Series: Tales from the Coffin #3
Author: JoAnne Kenrick
Genre: Contemporary, Paranormal, Thriller, Horror, Erotica

Publisher: Decadent Publishing

Purchase Links:

ARe

Book Description:

The Bone Cruncher hasn’t visited in a while, and Estella thinks it’s something she did. Misery loves company, but she loves food more. Putting on a smile, she musters up an erotic story. But can she make it to the end of the tale without comfort eating?

To onlookers, Seren lived the high life in London with her orchestra conductor of a husband. She had a major case of unrequited love for her best friend, though, so their relationship was doomed from the beginning. Divorce papers served, it’s time for her to go back to her hometown on the England-Wales border and face the music.

Owen, now a postman of their little market town, is thrilled to see Seren when he shows up at her doorstep with mail. It’s not long before they’re releasing their pent up lust and love for each other. Within that mail, though, are letters addressed to Seren’s parents. They’re from her ex and hold a truth Seren is too fearful to face. Even with Owen by her side.

Adult Excerpt:

Using her tongue, she parted his lips to explore his mouth. His warm, erratic breath and strong hold welcomed her into deeper kisses. Frantic. Desperate. She sank her fingers into the hair curled over his nape and pulled him closer still.

She couldn’t believe it. She was snogging the mud pie-making, tampon-throwing, Spiderman climbing Owen. Judging by his erection prodding at her stomach, he was as thrilled as she.

He roamed her bottom over her clothes. At that moment, she resented her mother’s quilted dressing gown. Breasts were next for his attentive touch, and the plump flesh of her tits squished up with the pressure.

Pulling away, he glared down. “This dressing gown has to go.” He tugged at the knotted rope, loosened the tangled mess, and slipped the granny-styled nuisance to the floor to reveal a red number. Why she’d been wearing it, she’d never know. It wasn’t like she thought anyone would see her in it. But there she was, laced to the nines with her hard nipples poking through.

“Much better.” He leaned in and flicked his tongue over her semi-exposed nub, causing the delicate mesh of her negligee to scrape at the sensitive skin. Another lick. Then he puckered his mouth around her...

This short story is approximately a little over 20 odd pages and very, very short. It is told from the point of view of Estella, Vampire Queen of the Rejected.
Lucy, Estella's zombie lover, has brought her dinner-YOU, the reader- and before the two ladies feast on your body, Estella tells you a short macabre tale that has no happily ever after.

It is the story of Seren and Owen, two friends who never became lovers and is about how a wrong decision in life carries over to one in death...and lets leave it at that. Because, really with a story this short, spoilers are bound to pop up. And I loathe to spoil it.

That being said, I liked the tale that Estella told, despite its lack of an HEA.  The premise would make a great novel length story and one could get to have a deeper connection to these two characters.  As it is, it is just an erotic quickie that I find lacks a real emotional connection for the reader. It would have a much deeper impact if some raw emotions were penned with it, and make the story stronger.

My overall impression is this--sometimes short can be harmful to the telling of a tale. This could have been better with a little more length, a lot more emotion.

I give it a generous 3 star rating.

BOOK REVIEW ~ WHERE THERE'S A WILL BY KAREN KELLEY

Blurb from Goodreads
ARC provided by NetGalley

When good girl Haley Tillman is stood up (again), she prays for a dating miracle— and then slams the front door in its face when it appears! Ryder is half angel, half mortal, with powers to do whatever the hell he wants. When he hears Haley’s prayers, he is bound and determined to answer every single one of them.

Where There's A Will had a very weak start for me; one that bordered on the ridiculous and unbelievable at times.

Haley has just prayed to the heavens for a answer to her prayers--specifically a man-regarding the pitiful lack of sex in her life. She wants to get laid.  She has been stood up the night before and self esteem has hit rock bottom.

Minutes later, her doorbell rings, and a sexy man sporting a black Stetson with a wicked grin stands on her front porch. He says he is the answer to her prayers.

What follows is a jumble of a mess-the unbelievable part-until I almost stopped reading.

Yes, Haley is instantly attracted to this sinfully delicious man. No news there. That's kind of expected in this genre. But the fact that she lets him remain in her house left me with a huge WTF moment. Seriously, who would let a man stay in her house for even a smidge of a second when he states such unbeliveable garbage. And yes, she shuts the door in his face. (Smart girl). At first. But there were times when I thought her actions bordered on the stupid side. But this is fiction, so I let it slide.

There's also the predictable plot and the secondary character--Chelsea, the hose beast skank and co-worker that snagged Ben (Haley's supposed date the night before), is mean, catty, and an out right bitch. The reader wants her to get her dose of revenge that we know is coming to her. And boy howdy does it ever. That little scene was the highlight of the book for me. HILARIOUS!  I must admit, I loved hating Chelsea.  Bad, C.S., Bad.

But at about half way through the book, I realized that I was starting to like these two characters.

I have always been a sucker for the Cinderella kind of story in romance. I love it when the Ugly Duckling turns into the beautiful swan and wins the prince. And that was what made me stick around for as long as I did.

And I love it when some of my dirty little fantasies come true by a hunk of burning love like Ryder. This fallen angel has discovered Haley's hidden diary. A naughty little book where she has penned all of her fantasies that she has never had the courage to act out. Ryder is one determined fallen angel to have these fantasies come to life for Hayden.

But then I started to develop an emotional connection to both Ryder and Haley--I could sympathize with their back stories.

And the way Ryder shows Haley just how beautiful she is was such a tender, heart felt moment. With his words, with his eyes, with his actions, he shows Haley what it is to be loved, to be cherised, and to embrace her inner desires and --- as a result, she not only feels beautiful, but she realizes just what true beauty means.

The lies mortals told, all in the name of what they thought was right or wrong. It always amazed him. "The body is a beautiful thing to look at, to touch." He brushed his fingers across her nipples. She jumped, like a nervous filly taking her first steps. But Haley's nipples betrayed her desire when they turned to hard nubs. "See how easily you respond to my touch."
And my favroite quote?

"All women are beautiful if they have a good heart. Every woman has something special about her. Her scent, the way she laughs, each nuance is hers and hers along."

So, yeah. I fell hard for Ryder. He knows just what to do to a woman and speaks from his heart. What a one-two combo that left me weak in the knees.

Oh, lookie, lookie--I new meme picture!  Great pic, TBQ ~

And now, my choice for this week's L4C:

Tangled Hearts Trilogy, Book One

When Cade Winslow and Merrick Sullivan find Elle hiding in the cabinet of a gun store, they know they can’t just walk away from the fragile woman with no memory of who she is or who tried to kill her. Merrick is training for the title shot in the heavyweight division as a mixed martial artist and can’t afford distractions, but neither can he turn his back on the woman who tugs at his heartstrings.

Elle feels safe with her two protectors, and the longer she spends with them, the more she realizes that she has no desire to remember her past. Not when it could compromise her future with Cade and Merrick.

Cade has his own set of concerns when it comes to Elle, and it quickly becomes clear to the two men that for the first time in their friendship, a woman is coming between them. But what if they just kept her there? Between them. Where she belongs.

I am a huge fan of Maya's menage books--and her KGI series is one of my top fave Romantic Suspense Series. She writes with such passion and emotion and her heroes are always swoon worthy.

This cover shows two men that are opposites (one with bronzed lickable skin and longish hair; the other darker haired, with paler skin that has nice scruffy scruff on his face) --that do things to my girly bits. Two sexy tatted men with lust on their mind. I am so there.

Now it's your turn to show me your L4C ~

BOOK SPOTLIGHT / AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT ~ A GIFT OF THE DARKEST MAGIC BY ASHLYNN MONROE

Welcome, Ashlynn Monroe to my blog ~ I am happy to be a part of your book tour promoting your newest book, A Gift of the Darkest Magic!

******

I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to visit your blog today. I just want to start out this post by saying that I adore this book. Someone recently told me I’m prolific and they made me chuckle. I replied by telling them, “I like to keep busy”. They were right. I’ve written over 50 short stories, novellas, and novels since 2010. While I hope all my works are great, some hold a higher place in my heart. This story is special.

I played around with it in my head for some time before putting on paper. I’ve always been a daydreamer. I’ve been a daydreamer ever since I was a really little girl. Imagination has been my life raft. I’ve had some difficult experiences in my life and the only thing I’ve been able to count on is my ability to escape with a story. Now that I’m a published author, I don’t daydream as much because I write every evening. If I don’t get the opportunity to write, I actually feel a little ill now. It’s become such a routine part of who I am that I can’t imagine life without writing. I’d write even if no one ever wanted to publish me again (let’s hope that day never arrives!). Occasionally I do hold onto a daydream—or story. Some tales are so vivid and complex that I don’t want to share. These stories I hoard in my brain for a long time—working and reworking until it’s so perfect I have to put it on paper.

A Gift of the Darkest Magic is one of those tales. It’s a story about darkness and forgiveness. I loved writing it and I hope you’ll love reading it too.

Would you be willing to betray the person you love in order to save their life?

Clarissa's husband Matt is dying of cancer. They've tried everything that medicine has to offer, both traditional and experimental, and nothing's worked. Clarissa spends her days in the hospital, watching the man she loves slip closer and closer to certain death.

When her sister tells her she knows a way to save Matt, but it involves visiting a local club run by vampires, Clarissa is outraged that her sister would believe something so insane. But then she learns the truth.
Braden, the sexy and mysterious vampire who runs the club, does indeed have the means to save Matt, but he demands a high payment in return. He doesn't want money, her blood, or even her life…he wants something she never expected. Clarissa has a choice—spend twenty-four hours in Braden's bed or let her husband die.

But what she never foresaw was how much more the vampire would truly want after he'd given her the gift of the darkest magic.
