Book Review

Wow--and--hilarious are two words that come to mind when I am reading the Dream Man series by Kristen Ashley. I am amazed that at first, I wasn't too keen on this book. I usually never read a series out of order, but I started reading Motorcycle Man before I had ever read any of the other books in the series.

Big mistake.

I didn't finish it. 

So, after a period of weeks...I picked up the first book, Mystery Man. I delved into the pages like it was some sort of book crack. I laughed my ass off. And then swooned over the sexy men portrayed in Ashley's fantasy world. They were hot with a capitol T and underlined several times.

So I find myself wondering if I will feel differently when I re-read Motorcycle Man.

And I did.

Kane Allen was a sinfully, sweet, addictive package wrapped up in tatts, a goatee, jeans, shit kickers, and a dirty mouth. 

LOVE HIM.

The heroine, Tyra Masters, was so easy to love. She, like a lot of women, are looking for THAT man to settle down. THE ONE. And after one sexy night with Tack, she thinks she has found him.

But Tack isn't looking for white-picket fences and a mini-van full of bouncing bambinos. He's in it for the sexy times and don't-let-the-door-hit-you-on-the-way-out kind of fella. 

But when Tyra shows up at his motorcycle shop, he can't help but want to have another taste of her. And all his rules go out the window. 

Motorcycle Man has everything that Ashley's fans will love and keep them coming back for more. With a return of the the cast of many (Elvira included), MM is a DREAM read to lose yourself in for a few hours. 

And leave you wanting more.

Book Review

First, I must admit to a little secret.

My first Kristen Ashley book was Motorcycle Man, which I originally did not finish. I put the book down because it didn't suit me. I can't put my finger on what bothered me at the time...but I just couldn't finish it.

Then, a while back, while perusing through Target, I bought the paperback version of Mystery Man. (On a side note, this is the first book of her Dream Man series). I thought, "What the hell, I'll give it another try." The cover was sexy. The blurb sounded good. And the book came home with me. 

Why am I telling you this? 

It's simple. If at first you didn't like it...try, try, again.

I read Mystery Man and laughed my ass off. Fell in love with the characters. And found myself wanting more.

Okay, I fell in lust with Hawk, but that's another story. And another review to be written.

That being said, I gobbled up Mystery Man, Wild Man, and have made my way to book three--Law Man. 

And I am now a fan. 

But as much as I dig this series--and I truly do--there are a few quirks that still bothered me. And I realized it was those quirks that had me not finishing Motorcycle Man in the beginning. 

Kristen Ashley has a very unique writing voice. It's different from a lot of stuff out there. And not being used to it, it came across as...bothersome. But the more you read Ashley's books, (and I'm referring to this series, as I have only read this series and her Chaos series) you realize it's her style. And you start to dig it. Which I now do. **Huge grin**

Okay...moving on with the original review intended for this post.

Detective Mitch Lawson has lived across from Mara Hanover for four years and has taken his time making his move. Mara is shy and easily spooked whenever he gets near her. But he wants her and he thinks the effort to get her out of her shell will be totally worth it.

Mara Hanover has the hots for her sexy neighbor, Mitch Lawson. But whenever she runs into him, she becomes a bumbling idiot. Not to mention, he is a Ten. And in her world, Tens do NOT ever hook up with anything less than a seven. Mara counts herself a Two, possibly a three on a good day.

And thus the hilarity ensues. 

My favorite parts of this story was the very beginning. The sexual chemistry between Mitch and Mara was off-the-charts scorching. 

Despite the sexual tension oozing between them, Mitch has his work cut out for him. Mara is a tough nut to crack. 

With easy-to-root for secondary characters and repeat performances from favorite characters past (Hawk, Elvira, etc), I fell in love all over again with the men and women of the Dream Man series. 

I now understand how some readers have said Ashley's books are like crack. They are addictive, fun, and intense--and when you are done and the high wears off, you find yourself looking for the next one.
